TEIGNMOUTH FOLK FESTIVAL, HERE WE COME!
Our Devon Youth Folk Ensemble (DYFE) are at Teignmouth Folk Festival this weekend, where they’ll be performing and holding a youth workshop – and both events are free!

Led by our professional musician Jon Dyer, they’ll be playing at The Triangle at 12 noon on Sunday 21 June. Jon and the Ensemble will then be hosting a workshop for 11-18-year-olds at Alice Cross Community Centre, 1-3 Bitton Park Road, from 2pm – 3.30pm.

We’ll supply the instruments – but please feel free to bring along your own if you wish. The workshop will focus on learning a folk tune with the group and then working with the group to make their own arrangement.

Young attendees don’t need to be accompanied by an adult but will need consent from a parent/carer to attend. Our Wren Music facilitators have a DBS check as required by their Safeguarding Policy.

There’s much more about DYFE, including videos, on our website: https://www.wrenmusic.co.uk/our-work/devon-youth-folk-ensemble
And for more information about the workshop, visit the page on the Teignmouth Folk Festival website: https://teignmouthfolkfestival.co.uk/workshops-sessions

We’re at Exeter Respect Festival this weekend!

We’ll have staff there for both days (come and find us!) and there are performances by The Wren Youth Folk Ensemble on Saturday and Wren Music Folk Choirs on Sunday.

Here’s where and when you can catch us at the festival at Exeter's Belmont Park …

Saturday 6 June - The Devon Youth Folk Ensemble will be playing the opening procession at 11:30am, followed by a 30-minute performance on the Stephen Lawrence Diversity Stage (led by Jon).

Sunday 7 June – Members from all our choirs are invited to join together for a performance on the Community Stage from 12.10pm to 1pm. Choir leader Paul says: “The set will feature traditional summer seasonal songs as well as newly written pieces. There’ll be chances to join in, and we're very excited that Wren Music has been offered a bigger choirs presence at Respect Festival this year.”

See the Exeter Respect Festival page for more information.

Catch our founders, Paul and Marilyn, at this year’s Plymouth Urban Tree Festival, where they’ll be singing songs connected to nature. They’ll be at Snapdragons in Victoria Park, Plymouth, on Saturday 9 May, late afternoon – and they’ll be encouraging lots of audience participation!

Paul and Marilyn are regular guests at the annual event, which is hosted by local volunteer-run charity, Plymouth Tree People, who for 20 years have been caring for and planting trees in Plymouth.

The Festival is a 9-day celebration of the city’s urban trees, and Marilyn says: “It’s a wonderful event and we love being part of it. We’re hoping to get lots of people along to join us singing – the more the merrier!”
