We have some funds available from the Crisis Resilience Fund for carers living in Cheshire West and Chester.

This fund is intended to help carers manage significantly rising living costs particularly with food and energy bills, although it can also be used for other essential costs.

Cheshire and Warrington Carers Trust will be accepting referrals from local carers, living in Cheshire West and Chester who meet the following criteria.

Eligibility Criteria:

Need to be registered with Cheshire and Warrington Carers Trust before 1st April 2026 or be referred through a professional working for local organisations.
Will be required to give information on their circumstances and clear reasons why they should be considered for support through the fund.

Priority will be given to carers who have not received funding through the Household Support Fund within the past 12 months.

The maximum amount carers can apply for is £200, although we expect the majority of awards to be less than this due to demand. All payments will be made directly into the carers bank account.

Temperatures in excess of 25°C can be associated with severe illness in vulnerable people including dehydration, heatstroke and heart attacks.
Here are 6 top tips for staying safe in the hot weather:

- Stay out of the heat
- Keep your living space cool
- Drink water regularly to stay hydrated
- Wear SPF 30 or higher with a minimum 4-star UVA protection
- Look out for others, including pets, children and vulnerable people.

⚠️ Red and Amber weather warnings for extreme heat have been issued for many parts of the UK until midnight on Thursday June 25.

People living with dementia are likely to be more vulnerable in hot weather, and with potentially record-breaking temperatures on the way, it's vitally important to take extra caution.

If you’re supporting someone with dementia, here are a few things that can help:

Make sure the person is dressed appropriately. Try light-coloured, loose-fitting clothes made from natural fibres.

Keep the house as cool as possible. Keep curtains or blinds closed during the day - especially in south-facing rooms. In the evening, open the windows to let the warm air out and the colder air in.

Avoid the midday sun. Stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day (between 11am and 3pm). Seek out plenty of shade and reapply sunscreen regularly when out.

Find ways to cool off. Help them take a cool bath or shower. Place a washcloth and some iced water nearby to dab themselves with.

Stay hydrated. Leave beakers or jugs of water within easy reach. Provide high-water-content foods like ice lollies, jelly, ice cream, soup, and fruit such as melon.

Ask friends and neighbours to pop in and check the person is ok if you don’t live near them. Perhaps the visitor could stay, have a drink with the person, and make sure the person has everything they need.

📢 Please share so we can keep everyone living with dementia safe in the heat.

We'll share a dedicated Q&A thread on Tuesday morning where you can post your questions. If you’d like us to notify you once the Q&A post goes live, please comment below 👇
