1st Bangor 2-2 Glentoran FC

⚽️x2 Bobbe

Lastnight the boys put on a performance of a lifetime coming up against the Glens 1st team.

Many would have written us off going into the game but what the boys showed lastnight was pure dedication to their team and we outplayed one of the leading teams in the SBYL premier division.

We conceded early after the glens midfield caught an absolute peach of a volley from distance and rattled it into the top corner. An unbelievable strike nobody could do anything about. From that moment it was clear that each kid on that team were just craving the long range strike so we told the boys to get in their face and play football.

Our midfield stepped up and kept their attempts to a minimum and our attack started to show a bit of joy. We thrive off of using our wingers and instantly i knew the boy marking Josh was a complete mismatch. I told the big lad to get on the ball, get his head down and run the line as much as he can. Rightly so the next attack Josh turned his man and set off down the left flank, beating 3 players on his way he put a wonder ball into the box where CJ caught it on the volley, the defender cleared it off the line only for big Bob to come crashing in and smash it past a sea of players to level the game.

We told the boys to lift it and they did, we kept the attacks coming, putting the glens on the back foot. A throw in out right played nicely and set back to Jude who lifted an audacious through ball over the defence and once again our big number 9 wrestled his way through and slotted it past the keeper! We looked unbelievable out there and the pressure just kept mounting for the glens.

Half time came and we welcomed the boys in but made it very clear that the game was nowhere near over. They were playing their best football and to just keep it up, stop shots and keep our wingers in play.

We set back out with the mindset we were 2-0 down and had to pull it back, the 2nd half we continued to dominate, we had more chances through bobbe and Josh, bentz also testing the keeper with a freekick but with about 15 minutes to go the Glens caught us lacking from a cross and fired home with a header.
The game got heated and glens started to pile some pressure on calling on aston to make some great saves and in the dying minutes CJ cleared a strike off the line. We battled hard but couldn’t get the winner and the FT whistle went for the dreaded penalties.

Unfortunately we bowed out in pens after a tense shootout but the boys showed an amazing fight from start to finish, the Glentoran coach even came over infront of his team and told the boys how the better team lost and we should have been the team celebrating the victory.

As i said, i got it wrong lastnight and i can only apologise but well done to the boys on their efforts and huge respect to each kid that stepped up to hit a penalty. Also thanks for the amazing support on the sidelines!

We are 1st Bangor and we will go again🖤🤍

Man of the match went Josh & Bobby

Joshs first half performance was one to be reckoned with, the big man took everything i said onboard and absolutely hammered the glens. Noone could get near him and the pure determination he showed to get us forward every time he had the ball was fantastic, he went into the game off the back of the glens team trying to target him but he stood tall and done his talking on the pitch! a performance to be proud of big man well done👊🏽🖤

2nd up was our super striker

Our big number 9 is absolutely flying atm with goals in every game lately, hes proving that as always he is a handful for any defence. Last night he showed just how good he is upfront with 2 brilliant goals but his workrate of the ball gets better and better every week. The running he done for his 2nd showed it all, outnumbered and fought his way through 3 defenders to win the ball and beat the keeper. Then showed his versatility when playing out wide where we worked unbelievably hard too. Whenever our backs are against the wall Bobbe always shows up with a goal⚽️

Welldone my mate👊🏽🖤

1st Bangor FC 1-0 St Malachys

⚽️ Bob

The boys FINALLY got their first win of the season today after an unbelievable performance against St Mals. Its been a long time coming with our performances growing stronger every week but today we saw a TEAM that fought until the very end together!

We started off on the front foot causing St Mals lots of issues. Our front 4 were linking up well. CJ, Bobbe with Alfie and Hunter on the wings. Jude and Bentley running the middle and a back 5 of Aston, Leo, Bentz, Cody and Ryan.

Aston had a quiet enough first half, quick off his line to stop any sort of threats. Bobbe was causing havoc up top asking lots of questions of their defenders, He had a few half chances at goal along with CJ who were both unlucky with a few strikes. The talking point of the half was the crazy penalty call after Bobbe was taken out from behind then later penalised for hitting the EXACT same tackle🤷🏽‍♂️ tempers started to flare within the team so the half time whistle gave us time to calm down and reflect.

We told the boys that football is a tough contact game and things will be said, they have to just get their heads down and let their feet do the talking. We set out our plan and it was so important to get our wingers into play and use the width of the pitch, on that note we introduced Josh and Markus to start the 2nd!

Out we went and we continued to mount the pressure, St Mals had their chances but our defence looked unbreakable today Leo mopped up every challenge. Cody and Bentz were a brick wall in defence and Ryan hammered through tackles like there was mo tomorrow.
We took the lead through an amazing passage of play, a counter attack Jurgen klopp would be proud of😂 Bentz won a great recovery run, played the ball to Jude who beat his marker, sprayed the ball out wide where CJ jumped and hit an audacious flick through the defence for Josh to chase. The big lad got the head down hit the bye line and fizzed it across the box and Big Bob crashed in to poke it through the keepers legs😍 one of my favourite goals to watch!

St mals came at us with everything but we dug deep, Jude, Ryan and Bentley put in match winning performances in midfield while Bentz and Hunter made some unbelievable last ditch tackes in the dying minutes but the biggest save of the game came from Aston who got lobbed by their striker and the big lad scurried across his box to catch it off the line!

We could have sealed the win in the dying minutes when bob broke free but unfortunately hit the post but we got the win in the end and the boys were over the moon, as were the coaches!

Fully deserved and its been a long time coming.
Big NI cup game next week against the glens so lets hope this is only the start👊🏽

🖤Man of the match went to Leo🖤

One of his best performances in a 1st Bangor shirt in my opinion. He won absolutely everything in defence today, wore his heart on his sleeve and threw himself into everything. Hes been at CB lately but today showed how good he can be in his natural position. I thought his fight from the 1st whistle was brilliant and he genuinely didnt get beat once.
Really great game today welldone Leo💪🏽

1st Bangor u13 girls 3-0 Berlin Swiftettes. A good team performance against a strong and physical Berlin side this afternoon. A scrappy start from the girls this morning and we struggled to cope with their physicality it took us a good 15 minutes to start but once we did the girls were excellent, we held our shape well and our wingers were having joy down the sides, this led to our 1st goal, a great cross into the box and Neela met the ball 1st and finished well. We pushed on looking for more goals but their keeper was having a great game.
We came in at ht and talked about continuing to play football and working hard. A slight change in formation worked well and our girls continued to press on. Neela who was having a great game got her 2nd goal with a great touch and turn to beat her marker and fired a great finish into the bottom corner. We created more chances but couldnt beat their gk, but our pressure did pay off in the end, a fantastic through ball from Mya found Haniya who beat 2 defenders and placed well to make it 3-0 to us and thats how it finished. A slow start but overall a fantastic performance from the girls to maintain their good start to the season, proud of how they coped with the physical side of the game and continued to play some nice football. Well done girls 🖤

Potmatch was close today and could of went to a number of players, I thought Taylor had a fantastic game in defence, won every tackle and drove us up the pitch every time she got the ball, Mya was excellent in defence and in midfield giving us that bit of physicality we needed, Grace took a knock in the 1st half but this spurred her on and she was fantastic in the 2nd half for us, very direct and positive. In the end we had 2 Potmatch awards 1st went to Avery, changed the game for us, was fantastic with the ball and was putting some great crosses in the box and was causing their defence problems all game. 2nd went to Neela, a fantastic performance from Neela pressed from the front giving their defenders no time on the ball, her hold up play was superb and 2 great finishes, especially the 2nd. Well done girls 🤍🖤

Saturday 17th October 🖤🤍

Very tough morning for the 2018 age group this morning, up against 3 very well drilled sides.

First we had Castle Juniors. 1st Bangor played very well, passing and looking for each other. We held our shape well and our two midfielders covered every blade of grass they could up and down. Some very good chances that just didn’t come our way! Next we had Rosemount. A physically strong team, that moved very quick. A more defensive game for us, but they continued to work hard and we had some chances, one which found the back of then net for us! Our third match was a little tougher against Groomsport. No subs and playing into the sun. Tiredness started to take its toil but the guys never gave up! Some lovely passes seen us make our own breaks up the pitch.

This week Mylo got player of the match. Working tirelessly in midfield today he covered every blade of grass, and used his speed to get back and help! Making himself in to a brillant winger!

Massive well done to this year group and there constant push! 🖤🤍

Match Report 2010’s

The 2010’s yet again had a Friday night match (seems there mustn’t be any pitches on a Saturday!) vs St James Swifts.

What was classed as a home match for 1st Bangor was played at Whiterock Leisure Centre (home match??)

Both teams fairly matched each other and the 1st half ended 0-0.

Into the 2nd half, lack of communication between our centre half and GK resulted in a penatly to St James Swifts, which the scored to make it 1-0.

With 5 minutes remaining, a bad tackle on one of our players resulted in a free kick about 25-30 yards from goal.

Step up Jayden who has a fantastic left foot, he struck the ball top corner to level the match! 1-1!

Last 4 mins were frantic, however neither team could score another and both teams ended up with a point each.

Goal Scorer -
Jayden ⚽️

Man of the match -
Jayden 🏆

Sunday 11th October 🖤🤍

Our 2014 girls continued their positive start to the season with a good 3-0 over Belfast Celtic this morning, I thought we had a scrappy start to the match but after 10 minutes we started to get our foot on the ball and play some football, our pressure paid off after a throw in the ball found its way to Mya who was in space and fired low into the corner. It was 2 not long after, some great play between Neela, Avery and Lucy who played a lovely through ball to Sophia who ran on and placed low into the corner. We came in at ht and talked about keeping possession and not letting our workrate drop, and the girls definitely didn't drop their levels, we stepped up our efforts and were playing some nice football, our efforts were rewarded when Neela grabbed our 3rd her hardwork and persistence paid off after she chased down the defence and gk and won the ball to fire into an empty net. We pushed on but their gk was in good form and kept the scores down and it finished 3-0 to us. A good team performance🖤

Potmatch went to Lucy, I felt she injected a lot of pace and energy when she came on, and get her foot on the ball which at the time was needed and led to us opening the scoring today, never stopped working for us all game, a fantastic performance today, well done Lucy🖤🤍
