Thank you to all the young people, families, leaders and trustees who made our first ever "bring a grown up" night a success! No photos taken as we were all too busy getting stuck in. We had games, art, construction, fire lighting, shelters and toasted marshmallows ⚜️

Behind the scenes....
Ever wondered where that magical ladder in the scout hall goes to? Not Narnia, not "where the scout leaders live" (although sometimes it feels like that...and a few of us have slept up here during hall sleepovers in the past) and not a penthouse suite with a swimming pool. This is where we keep the kit. And it's often a mess. Because on a Sunday night when we've finished packing up the campsite and everything is wet, we unload cars and dump it all up here to deal with when we're less exhausted. It's currently got the expedition tents and the water fight stuff all over it. So we periodically come up during weekends and try to tidy it. We say we will keep on top of it, but we never do!

If you or someone you know has some time every now and again to help us keep the hall running and the kit sorted, please let us know. We need informal help as well as more formal trustee positions on our committee. Thanks!

Some of our lucky young people were gifted community tickets for the Commonwealth Games Netball match this evening. Jamaica were lightning fast and beat Trinidad and Tobago (or Tobongo, Tobingo, and the many other mispronunciations the kids managed to come up with). We gave Finnie the mascot a wave and played Flip 7 and Dobble on the train. Exciting to try something a bit different, thank you to the Games and Scouts Scotland!

Waiting lists:
We are fortunate to have a thriving group with our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts section all full. This means we get a lot of enquiries about our waiting list.

We do have a waiting list, but as priority must be given for existing members moving up, this means that the Cubs and Scouts sections only rarely have space to bring in new members from the waiting list.

If your young person is aged 8-13, it is worth exploring whether other local groups have any spaces. We do have spaces in our Explorers section for ages 14-17.

Spaces for Beavers (aged 6-8) are allocated on a first come first served basis. We'd recommend signing them up to the waiting list earlier than their 6th birthday to have a better chance of getting a place.

To give an idea of scale, we currently have over 70 young people on the waiting list for Neilston across all ages groups. Around half of the list are aged 8-13.
