Tomorrow is WI day for Backwell, and we have Backwell WI October Meeting - Dogs for the Deaf! The night will include the launch of our ‘Chatty Table’, a puzzle & book sale, and a "raise the roof' fundraising hamper - please bring cash! We also have poppies on sale for 🏵️

Please note a dog will be coming, so if you have an allergy or phobia, this is something to consider.

First-time attendees are FREE. Doors open from 7:30pm at Backwell WI Hall. Come join us 🥰

The 2027 NFWI Annual Meeting will be held in Hull on Thursday 3 June 2027.

This year Avon Federation of Women's Institutes is doing things slightly differently - rather than asking WIs to nominate a link delegate to represent a linking group, we are giving all members the opportunity to put themselves forward to be a delegate.

Applications for both in-person and online delegates are welcome. Application forms will need to be returned by Monday 30 November 2026 - please email us at [email protected] for a form.

Today is World Mental Health Day! 🌍💜

It's a day to remind ourselves that mental health matters, and that every conversation can make a difference.

This year, we're encouraging everyone to do one simple thing: take time to talk and really listen.

Listening helps people feel understood, supported and less alone. It also helps us learn from people's experiences and better protect mental health.

Whether it's a friend, family member, colleague or neighbour, today is a chance to check in, make space for conversation, and listen to what really matters.

Because every conversation matters. 💜

Did you miss Backwell's *People’s Emergency Briefing*?

Special screening for WI members –
WI members are invited to join a special online screening of the People's Emergency Briefing Tuesday, October 27 6:15 PM. The film is based on the National Emergency Briefing held in Westminster last year for MPs, peers, and national decision-makers on climate change, nature loss, and the implications for the UK.

The event supports the aims of our Fair Green Future campaign, which seeks to empower communities to engage with climate and environmental issues and ensure local voices are heard in decisions affecting their future.

A panel of expert speakers will answer questions from attendees and explore the implications of these issues for communities across the UK. Members will also hear about practical resources available for WIs interested in hosting their own local screenings and discussions.
