🌿heritage and rural crafts for wellbeing

At NurtureWild, our vision is to tackle the issues that affect individuals, communities and the natural environment. We are determined to address these through facilitating connection to the natural world, integrating the sharing and learning of land skills and heritage crafts with wellbeing, motivating reciprocal work which benefits people and their environment. We are working in our local community in the Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire areas.

Things have been quiet here for a while, but we have been working away behind the scenes to get some more projects off the ground and work towards finding a sustainable model for NurtureWild CIC.

We have some new workshop offerings, starting with this nourishing Nature Labyrinth Day Retreat, this is to support us to keep our core programmes free for participants who are struggling with mental health and wellbeing.

Please share with anyone you feel may be interested!

Our latest workshop was clay with Gayle .arts
Using the technique of coil building the participants created small pots. These were then smoothed and decorated with stamps to create all kinds of patterns. Everyone spoke of how relaxing working with clay can be, although some people weren't keen on the texture!

These will be fired and painted in the coming weeks.
We sadly didn't get pictures of everyone's work as clay and cameras don't mix very well...

Thanks as always to for hosting these workshops and our funders !

It's been a little while since we posted, we have been so absorbed in our 'Nurture your Wellbeing' course and all the other business that summer brings that we have totally forgotten to keep updated.

The group has been really incredible, we have been enjoying the sunshine, spending time in this beautiful nature space and getting creative.

Here you can see us making these lovely lanterns out of willow and tissue paper with some nature adornments. We then put some tiny fairy lights inside (as candles would not be safe). They look beautiful lit up at night.

We have had a successful launch of our new project 'Nurture your Wellbeing' at funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and in partnership with Bristol Future Parks

This is a 6 week program for women and non binary folk who have faced trauma or are struggling with their mental health. We are focusing on the 5 Pathways to Nature Connectedness and connecting with nature through craft, as well as some gentle mindfulness activities.

In this session we started to get to know each other by playing some nature related name games, we focused on the pathway of Contact, spending time on some mindfulness and then got a lovely sensory experience molding clay. Clay is a substance that really connects us to the earth and creates an explorative and playful medium to come into contact with nature, ourselves and each other.

It feels great to be putting into action a project that we have been working on for so long behind the scenes and we are very grateful to our funders and all those that are supporting us.

What a beautiful creative day we had in our two Monday sessions in partnership with and

In theme with the day of love, we celebrated love for ourselves and love for nature. We discussed how nature can show us what unconditional love looks like by supporting us through the air we breathe, the food we eat and the sense of joy and calm that we can have when we are being held by nature, as well as how we can show the natural world, that we are a part of, love by caring for our environment and developing a reciprocal relationship of mutual support.

As we had these discussions we foraged all sorts of different natural materials to make paintbrushes out of, got experimental by doing some mark making with these and then cut them up to make a collage on a card.

We then wrote a letter of love and appreciation to ourselves in these cards to put away in a safe place until a time that we feel we need it.

We feel it is so important to celebrate ourselves, to take a moment to really appreciate ourselves for who we are and within our wider ecosystem too ❤

Last week in our Nature for Wellbeing session at in Thornbury we had some fun and a good laugh playing 'web of life'.

This is a game that can help us to think about and visualise all of the different interactions that happen in nature. By picking up a few items in the immediate environment and then connecting them to each other, passing a ball of string around at the same time, we start to see how everything is dependant on everything else in an incredible interconnected web of life.

Its amazing to see gow much we all already innately know and understand 🐀🐛🌱🌳

Looking forward to getting stuck into some more crafting next week!

We are super excited to announce that we are about to start running our Creative with Nature programme at Cadbury Heath Healthcare Centre in partnership with and starting on Monday 23rd January.

We will be bringing the outside in and getting creative in a relaxed an held environment as well as doing some gentle mindfulness activities. The aim of these sessions is to connect with ourselves, each other and nature with a focus on supporting mental health and wellbeing.

These are drop in sessions so you are welcome to just turn up on the day. We do encourage regular participation if that is possible for you as we feel that it can be most beneficial that way, however there is never any pressure or expectation to turn up each week.

Please pass on to anyone you feel could benefit.

We know that it can be hard turning up to a new group. If anyone feels nervous about coming, please encourage them to give us a call first so that we can bridge some of the fear or anxiety.

It's a new year and we are really excited to be running our sessions again at in Thornbury every Monday from 10 - 12.

All of our sessions focus on mindfullness, arts and crafts and conservation activities in nature. We provide a welcoming and warm space to connect with ourselves, each other and nature.

We understand how hard it can be to show up to a new group in a new space and we do our best to make it feel safe and held.

We try to do activities outside where possible, but we do have an indoor space to be if it is too wet or cold, so don't let the weather put you off. We will make sure that everyone is comfortable with what we are doing before the session starts and can always be adaptable to individual needs.

As always, our sessions are free to attend and we are running these on a drop in basis, so there is no pressure to come every week.
We do ask that you book online if you can though, just so that we can get an idea of number, however if this feels inaccessible to you then you can just contact Alicia on 07989 351530

If you know anyone who could benefit to coming along who is on a journey with their mental health then please pass on the information.

We had a beautiful day in the woods today getting festive despite the cold weather! ❄

We kept warm by the fire, foraged some foliage, did some gentle grounding activities and then got crafty with some wreath making. We were enjoying ourselves so much that we almost completely lost track of time 🌿

We have one more session next week before the Christmas break, in which we will be getting stuck into some more festive craft activities and eating minced pies 🙌

All sessions are completely free to attend as always.

You can book by following the link in our bio.

We had a beautiful morning yesterday running our first Nature for Wellbeing session in partnership with and One You South Gloucestershire

We were so emersed in connection to each other and the beautiful winter woods that we forgot to take any pictures, apart from of this incredible leaf.

We introduced our project, spent some time making some group guidelines to help the space feel safe and inclusive, made a fire to keep ourselves warm and did some gentle nature-based mindfulness activities.

We are looking forward to next week where we will delve into some nature craft activities and spend more time around the fire.
