Fancy a day outside in one of Bristol’s lovely green spaces? Come and help us take care of the trees at Purdown Open Space on 14th July 🌱

At our volunteer day, we’ll be helping to keep the trees healthy, happy and hydrated through the summer. These trees are so important for creating a shaded and green community area – and doing regular tree care means they can thrive long into the future.

You don’t need any experience to come along. The day will be very relaxed – a chance to learn new skills, spend time with a group of local people and try your hand at some simple tree care activities.

📣 A new report published today gives us a clear picture of the in the West of England. Across our beautiful region, there is so much energy and ambition for restoring and protecting our woodlands, rivers and green spaces. But urgent action is needed.

Developed by the West of England Combined Authority and West of England Nature Partnership, the new report shows we still have fewer trees than other UK regions. Nearly half of our bird species are declining and only 2% of the species that live in and around our woodlands are increasing.

We know how much there is to do. And we know how many communities, organisations and businesses are keen to take action. That’s why we’re working with landowners and volunteers across the region to plant hundreds of thousands of new trees in Avon 🌱

Do you have a piece of land you could turn into a woodland, tree habitat, orchard or hedgerow? We can pay for the trees and work with you to design a planting project that will help people and nature thrive in the West of England.

With tree planting all wrapped up for another year, we’re looking back at an amazing season. Landowners, local organisations and our amazing volunteers came together to plant 149,000 trees! That’s 149,000 new trees growing around Avon – ready to become future woodlands, orchards, hedgerow habitats and wildlife corridors 🌱

We’ve loved working with so many wonderful partners and landowners to make this happen, including Avon Needs Trees, South Gloucestershire Council, Bristol City Council and National Trust – who’ve all done such inspiring work this season. Thank you to everyone who planted trees with us over the winter…just look what we achieved together 💚

At Forest of Avon, we fund and support tree planting across the West of England through the Defra-backed Trees for Climate scheme. If you’re a landowner who’s interested in planting trees, find out more at https://forestofavon.org/grants-to-plant-trees-on-your-land. We’re busy making plans for next season and we’d love to hear about your tree planting idea💡

At any time, on any day, we can sit with nature for a moment while we take a pause. While we breathe in, and out. Our lives move fast and can ask a lot of us sometimes, but we still deserve these moments of rest 💚

This , can you find a small piece of nature to sit with for a moment? Even opening a window to let the breeze in, or taking a second to notice the colours in the sky, can give us a breath 🍃

Do you know someone in the Bristol area who's affected by dementia? Our Woodland Wellbeing groups can provide free, accessible support. We hold a regular group where people affected by dementia and their carers can spend time together in woodlands🌳At groups, participants can safely experience nature connection, community and simple activities to support wellbeing.

This year, our groups have been nominated for a UK Dementia Award - showing just how much spending time in nature can support physical and emotional wellbeing. If you know someone in the Bristol area who might benefit from joining our group, they can find out more by:

Our outdoor Dementia Wellbeing sessions have restarted for the spring - and everyone’s really enjoying being together in the woods again 🌞 We thought we’d tell you a little bit about what we’ve been up to…a few simple ideas for boosting your mood by spending even short moments in nature 💚 We’ve loved:

🪻Going for short walks to see the beautiful flowers and green leaves unfurling.

🌿Noticing leaves we especially like and sticking them to card to make our own 'leaf wheels'.

10 MILLION TREES ACROSS ENGLAND'S COMMUNITY FORESTS🌳

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate a huge national milestone - 10 million trees planted through Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra)'s Trees for Climate fund across the England's Community Forests network.

This represents a national effort across England where millions of trees have been planted to help tackle climate change, support wildlife, improve air quality, and create greener spaces for communities to enjoy now and into the future.

To mark the occasion, we created a special video capturing the symbolic planting of the 10 millionth tree, planted by Mike and Rob from our Nature & Health groups. It’s a great reminder that behind this national achievement are real people and the everyday benefits that access to trees and nature can bring to our health and wellbeing.💚

We’re proud to be part of the England's Community Forest network, working alongside partners, communities and volunteers to make lasting, impactful change across the country.🌱
