St Elizabeth's Centre

St Elizabeth's Centre St Elizabeth's is unique. We enable everyone to thrive, where a complex need is not a barrier to living a full life.

St Elizabeth’s is a charity committed to providing high quality education, leisure and health care to children and young people with severe epilepsy, other complex neurological conditions and learning disabilities. Founded in 1903 as a school for children with epilepsy we now comprise:

- A Specialist School for both day and boarders aged 5-19.

- A Further Education College for learners aged 19-

25 attending our pioneering three year independence programme.

- Day activities for adult day clients providing more than 40 on and off site learning and leisure pursuits. The essential costs of care, accommodation and education are met from government sources, however, the children and adults referred to St Elizabeth’s have increasingly complex needs requiring more specialist care and support. This means that for anything that is considered non-essential we must fundraise. Find out more here http://www.stelizabeths.org.uk/get-involved/where-your-money-goes/

There are lots of ways in which you can get involved and help us to continue to support the many children and adults in our care. Please take a look here to find out more http://www.stelizabeths.org.uk/get-involved/

What a treat exploring all creatures great and small today πŸ•·οΈπŸ’πŸ

A huge thank you to Amy from Cedars Nature Centre who visited our school today with lots of different animals for our children to meet and learn more about.

From snakes to tortoises to tarantulas, our students were so brave in getting up close and personal and even holding some! They showed great respect and patience and had a great day. πŸ’œ

This week saw the launch of our St Elizabeth's radio station! πŸ’œπŸ“»

Children from pathway 1 used their Work Experience Week to set up their own radio station, bringing tunes, conversations and interactions to life through radio.

From writing and recording jingles, advertisement, researching and fact-finding, to reporting and presenting, pupils have demonstrated a wide range of literacy and communication skills. Most importantly, they have shown tremendous courage in finding their voices and developing excellent oracy skills for a real audience.

Projects like this bring learning to life and provide our pupils with authentic opportunities to communicate, express themselves and share their achievements with others.

It is a wonderful example of how we prepare our students for life beyond school through purposeful, engaging and aspirational experiences.

A huge thank you to our wonderful staff who made it all happen. You can be part of our amazing school by joining our team! πŸ’œ more information can be found at https://careers.stelizabeths.org.uk/vacancies

A huge congratulations and well done to one of our college learners Daniela, who picked up a Pioneer Approaches 'Good Spirit' Rumble Award last night πŸ’œ

In partnership with Hertfordshire County Council , The Rumble Awards recognise and celebrate individuals who deserve an award for exceeding all expectations and enhancing the lives of others in the process.

The awards are organised and run by people with learning disabilities and differences. They create and host the event, design the media and decide who will win what award and who the ultimate winner will be.

We are so proud of your courage and determination to succeed Daniela - a deserving winner of this award! πŸ’œπŸ†πŸ₯‡

A big thank you to the Bishop's Stortford Woodwind Band who recently came in to perform in our new Community Hub πŸŽΌπŸ’œ

Everyone had so much fun listening and dancing along to a range of songs, and learning more about the different instruments that make up the band.

The band have been supporting us for a long time, coming in to perform on many occasions including our annual AppleFest. We are so grateful for their time and support - we really love every visit! πŸ’œ
