Every week i see the real magic of Next Steps
Amazing camaraderie, great banter, advice, and laughs.
And what gets to me most is I know all the stories behind these fighters.
People dealing with cancer go through such a lot. Treatments can leave you exhausted and with bits removed, horrid side effects, tubes, and medication effects.
Not forgetting the mental health side.

But i never hear any complaints. They are always smiling, even though they've all been through hell with cancer. Behind every smile are battles, fears, tears, and moments of strength that not everyone sees.

Cancer has tested us in ways words could never explain, but here we are, still standing, still smiling, and still moving forward together.

Next Steps is full of remarkable people supporting each other. X

Another full house, plus , today. It was a good session, some old faces welcomed back. A good laugh, plenty of conversations.
Along with exercise , today saw:
Money collected for Christmas meal, arrangements for drumming session sorted out, and all manner of world problems sorted by Next Steppers!!

Interesting to see a few articles this week advocating exercise for cancer patients.Its a drum we've been beating since day one!!
The one below specifically says prostate cancer but it really is proven it helps recovery for all cancer patients.
Its a massive % improvement.

Now that clinical studies are highlighting this perhaps we will see some funding reaching the front line? I doubt it myself.
If anyone knows of a fund I can apply to, a sponsor I could tickle, or any piggy banks that need emptying, please let me know

It was announced this week that the ability of men over 50 to request and receive a psa test ,on demand, has been removed.
Psa tests prostate specific antigen which if higher than normal suggests the prostate is in distress.

Now blokes over 50 can ask but will have to discuss with their gp who may or may not agree with the request .
Its important to note that if the gp is informed you have symptoms of prostate problems then a psa test should be forthcoming

We at Next Steps think this is a horrific decision. A straw poll of Next Steps members shows us over 90% of the blokes had no symptoms. I had no symptoms.
We were all alerted to the possibility of cancer through a random blood test. A test that could save lives.

Its an incomprehensible decision.

Remember you may have no symptoms so getting a test can be critical. You can still ask for a test if you have close family history of prostate cancer

The symptoms, you may get and to be watchful for are below. You should tell the gp if you have any of these.

Needing to p*e more often or urgently, especially at night.
Trouble starting to p*e or straining to push
A weak or slow flow of urine
A stop-and-start flow feeling like your bladder is not empty
Dribbling or leaking after you finish
Other Physical Signs
Blood in your urine or semen
Pain or burning when you p*e
Trouble getting or keeping an er****on
Pain in your lower back, hips, or pelvis that does not go away
Unexplained weight loss or tiredness

There are private psa tests available if you hit a brick wall.

Another amazing turn out for this weeks Next Steps!
And we were missing a few who were under the weather or struggled with the weather.
It was a really hot day but everyone got stuck in.

Refreshing drinks afterwards at the Green Hut.
Its great to see new members settling in so quickly.

As Chief Brody once said "you're going to need a bigger boat!
In our case more chairs!

What a team! Together we are stronger!

Next Steps is your group. Its always there for when you need it. Sometimes life events turn up and changes our plans.
Maybe its been a while since you've been, maybe its every week.
We are here ready for you when you can make it.
We dont care if you last came a year ago, just walk through the doors and it'll be like you've never been away. We even have the same tunes!!

Nobody is ever forgotten and nobody is judged.

Together we are stronger!

More great news!!! These lovely local, and community spirited people, Rogan'z Wirral Waste & Recycling offered a large piggy bank full of money to a worthy cause.
Our treasurer was nearest in his guess and we won!
As always the funds will help keep Next Steps available to all who need us.

Next Steps is a welcoming and inclusive community.
We like family and friends of Next Steppers to be involved and that they can see how the way the group operates benefits us all.

Today we trialed a new volunteer instructor, Chester.
He comes highly recommended. Apparently he has his mum and dad ( and Nan!!) running around everywhere after him
