Please note that booking is at the discretion of the Redesdale Hall Management Committee, but we will always do our best to accommodate local bookings as a priority. The Redesdale Hall is primarily a community hall and as such we regret that the Hall cannot be hired or used for commercial purposes.

Another productive week. The birdcage scaffold is now complete in the upper room; a huge structure to get us to the highest point of the vaulted ceiling. On the roof, we’re started to strip the sarking boards, which are the oak timbers fixed across the rafters, underneath the tiles. We can now see daylight through the roof.
Offsite, about half of the thousands of tiles that have been removed are being dressed by hand for reuse by a dedicated team of craftsmen. Let’s hope the great weather continues. 🤞

Not the best weather for re-roofing. Fortunately we’re still watertight despite 90% of the tiles being removed and two named storms passing through. We’re focusing on getting the interior scaffold up, with every tube and board being brought in through a tiny hole in the roof because they’re too long to get up the stairs. A heck of a job.
In other news, my very favourite part of any building conservation project is finding forgotten, lost and often deliberately hidden items of every-day ephemera. This is what we’ve found so far. The prices on the items are pre-decimal and some items go back back much further. Anyone’s grandad lost a pair of plimsoles?

We’ve had a good first week of roof stripping. Half the tiles are off now and have been transported away to be assessed for reuse and to be dressed. The upper floor is about to become a forest of internal scaffold, to allow our skilled craftsmen to able to reach the vaulted ceiling. The tubes for that have had to be dropped into the upper room via a hole on the roof. It’s a challenging site!

And so it starts again! The scaffolding is back up and Phase 2, Raising the Roof is officially underway. Works will be complete in spring next year and in the meantime we will keep the ground floor open for business. Father Christmas will be using a different chimney to visit Moreton this year but he will still be stopping by. News of that later. We’ve also worked very hard not to inconvenience the operations of the Market. Please bear with us whilst we undertake this essential work and thanks to everyone who has supported the project. What's on In The Redesdale Hall, Moreton-in-Marsh 12th - 18th Oct 26. The external scaffolding has been completed, and work begins this week on the internal scaffolding, on the first floor. The lower hall remains fully operational. If you have time at the weekend, please pop in to support the craft producers.
