⚽🌍 World Cup Fun Day at Southesk Primary School 🌍⚽

Montrose Community Trust is delighted to be delivering a World Cup-themed Fun Day at Southesk Primary School on Friday, 19th June, helping pupils celebrate and build excitement ahead of Scotland's World Cup match against Morocco.

Funded through the Scottish Football Association’s Summer Of Football initiative, the event will provide pupils with the opportunity to take part in a range of fun, football-inspired activities and challenges designed to encourage participation, teamwork, physical activity, and enjoyment.
Pupils will also be invited to represent countries from around the world by wearing their chosen national colours, creating a vibrant World Cup atmosphere throughout the school and celebrating the global nature of football in a positive and inclusive environment.

A huge thank you to the Scottish FA and the Summer of Football initiative for supporting opportunities like this within our local communities. We look forward to a fantastic day of football fun and World Cup excitement! ⚽🏆

Always a pleasure to catch up with Dave Doogan MP .

One thing we always appreciated about Dave is his willingness to come and spend time with us, listen to what's happening on the ground and champion the work that community organisations are doing across the North East.

Our latest conversation was particularly timely, being the first since he became Leader of the SNP at Westminster. We spoke about the Gable End development and the wider role that community anchor organisations can play in tackling some of society's biggest challenges.

The third sector has some incredible stories to tell, but it also has some important questions to ask. Having elected representatives who are willing to engage openly and constructively makes a real difference.

Thanks again for taking the time, Dave. Looking forward to seeing where the next chapter takes us both.

✨ Midlife Matters: Our Pilot Programme Comes to an End ✨

Over the past 12 weeks, 16 incredible women joined us for the pilot of Midlife Matters, a programme designed to support, educate and empower women experiencing peri-menopause and menopause.

Together, we laughed, learned, shared experiences, built confidence and created a truly supportive community.

One participant told us:

💛 "I wasn't sure how this programme was going to help me but I'm so glad that I was able to take part."

Another shared:

💛 "You have put together an amazing programme for us peri and menopausal women but also made it fun along the way."

We are incredibly proud of what was achieved and grateful to every woman who trusted us to be part of their journey.

We're also delighted to announce that thanks to the generous sponsorship from Baker Hughes and NatEase Sports Therapy, Midlife Matters will return for a second cohort starting on Monday 17th August.

To everyone who supported the pilot programme – participants, facilitators, volunteers, community partners and sponsors – thank you for helping us create something truly special.

We are absolutely delighted to share that our very own Mike Knox has been named Volunteer of the Year at the Voluntary Action Angus Heart of the Community Awards, held last night at the Carnoustie Golf Hotel as part of this year’s Volunteers’ Week celebrations.

Mike has dedicated an incredible 12 years of volunteering with Montrose Community Trust and continues to make a huge difference across our community every single week. As one of our valued walk leaders, Mike has gone above and beyond by completing Dementia Friendly Walk Leader training, RNIB training, and First Aid training to better support those who take part in our activities.

Mike also plays a vital role in supporting our Montrose Connections Dementia Meeting Centre, regularly driving and even cleaning the minibus, ensuring our members can attend safely and comfortably. Alongside this, he volunteers with Montrose Food Hub, helping with essential pick-ups and deliveries for local people in need.

This award is a truly well-deserved recognition of Mike’s kindness, dedication, and unwavering commitment to supporting others. Although Mike was unable to attend in person, his daughter and MCT Operations Lead, Gemma, proudly collected the award on his behalf.

Here is a snippet of what Mike had to say on finding out he had won "I accept this award on behalf of everyone who believes that small acts, add up to real change.
Thank you to Montrose Community Trust who placed their trust in me to help and support the community in their name. I pray that this award shines a light on the work of all volunteers in our communities, not on me. If you want to honour this moment, find one small way to make someone’s life a little better. "

We are incredibly proud of Mike and grateful for everything he does for our organisation and wider community. Another fantastic achievement for our amazing team - congratulations Mike! 👏

🪴 Community Garden Update 🪴

There has been lots happening behind the scenes at our Community Garden and it’s amazing to see it really starting to look and feel like a true community space 💚

We’ve welcomed volunteers, members from our Meeting Centre, as well as local schools and nurseries, all helping to bring the garden to life. So far we’ve had new signage installed, planters built, wooden stools created, sheds painted, and lots of weeding and planting taking place 🌼🍓🥕

We are so grateful to everyone who has supported the project so far and we are always looking for more volunteers to get involved with tasks such as watering, weeding, and planting.

If you would like more information or are interested in volunteering at the garden, please contact Kerry at:
