The first official photos from Minehead Bay Festival are in, and wow, they really capture what a special day it was.✨ Saturday’s event was a true celebration of our community coming together.

None of it would have been possible without the support of our main sponsors, Minehead Town Council and Hollam Solicitors, and our 2026 supporting sponsors: Sheppy's Cider Ltd, Jewson Minehead, Butlin's, Eagle Plant Minehead, Active Signs, and Danas fish and chips

Your backing didn't just fund a festival; it funded our community coming together in celebration and thousands of joyful moments on the seafront.

Thank you all for believing in Minehead and investing in days like this one. We're already excited for what we'll build together next year. 🚀

The Minehead – A History of Place project continues this summer, with archaeologist and storyteller Dan Broadbent out and about collecting memories and stories from local people for a new digital archive of the town, past and present.

People have already been coming forward with some really interesting stories, and Dan would love to hear more. His next pop-up lands in the Community Area on the Esplanade at Minehead Bay Festival this Saturday. No need to prepare anything: a quick memory or a longer tale are equally welcome. Drop by, say hello, and add your voice to the growing picture of Minehead.

What matters most to our community

Over the past weeks, we've been sharing the results of our community survey with you. The responses paint a really clear picture of what matters most to people in Minehead.

You told us that you want a Minehead that's connected, welcoming, full of life, with more opportunities to come together, celebrate our heritage, enjoy nature and create a thriving place to live and visit.

Key themes:

Stronger community connections
More events and activities
Protecting nature and green spaces
Celebrating local culture and heritage
Supporting wellbeing
Working together to improve Minehead

These responses reflect real priorities from the community in Minehead, and they will directly shape how we focus our energy, partnerships and work in the months and years ahead.

We can't do everything alone. But we can listen, connect, champion and collaborate, and that's exactly what we intend to do.
Is there something on this list that matters most to you?

Or something you'd like to add? Let us know in the comments.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the survey.

Your voices genuinely matter.

Minehead Bay Festival – Final Push for Volunteers📣

Saturday 29th August is nearly here, and this year's Minehead Bay Festival is shaping up to be our biggest yet, so we're still after a few more volunteers to help pull it off.

A big thank you to everyone who's already signed up, the festival simply couldn't happen without you. If you haven't put your name down yet, there's still time, and we'd love to have you on board.

Got an hour or a whole day to give? There's a role to suit. We need help with marshalling and traffic control, the festival centre, the beach wellness area, the stages, and the skate park.

Never volunteered before? No problem, no experience needed. You'll get a full briefing on the day, plus food, hot drinks, snacks, and your very own festival t-shirt to keep.

Spaces are filling up, so if you've been umming and ahhing, now's the time to sign up.

The response to this creative project has been overwhelming! Hundreds of hand-knitted and crocheted squares, pom-poms, and beautiful wind spinners have been made by people across our wonderful community.

Over the last two weeks, we have been so busy crafting, making and drinking lots of tea! Our community really came together to create something special for the Minehead Bay Festival.

A group of us have since been sewing the squares, making garlands, and figuring out how to install everything on the morning of the festival.

Every piece tells a story, and we'd love for you to come and find yours. Look out for the yarn-bombed trees, lamp posts, pom-pom garlands and wind spinners on the Circus Green area of the festival site on Saturday 29 August, and see your contribution on display. 🧶

A huge thank you to everyone who picked up a hook, needle or pom-pom maker, Minehead's creativity is on full display this year.

Special thanks to:
🧡 Minehead WInspirations : The Minehead WI for working with us to make the installation
🧡 Minehead Eye for hosting us to make decorations with the wonderful children at the Holiday Club
🧡 Somerset Libraries Minehead for being our drop-off and collection point for submissions

We can't wait for you to see what we have made together! 🧶

📢 A special community screening: The People's Emergency Briefing here in Minehead next month

What's happening with climate and nature, and what does it mean for everyday life in the UK?

Join us for a screening of the People's Emergency Briefing, an eye-opening film bringing together nine leading UK scientists and experts with the latest evidence and why it matters for things like:

🌧️ Extreme weather
🍞 Food security
🏥 Health
💷 Cost of living

The film is based on the National Emergency Briefing in Westminster (featured by ITV, Channel 4 and The Times) with appearances from Chris Packham, Deborah Meaden, and a range of voices from across the UK.

After the film, there will be a short open discussion about what it means for our community and what we can do locally.

"To refuse to participate in the shaping of our future is to give it up. Do not be misled into passivity either by false security ('They don't mean me') or by despair ('There's nothing we can do'). Each of us must find our work and do it." — Audre Lorde
