Thank You, Crafters of Minehead β€” Now We Need Your Squares!

Following our recent ask, we have been overwhelmed with beautiful knitted and crocheted pieces. These will be pieced together to make adornments for the trees at the Minehead Bay Festival.

If you want to get involved, we would particularly love more squares to add to the jumpers for the trees. Free wool can be collected and your squares can be dropped off at Minehead library.

🌿 93% of Minehead residents feel connected to our town's open spaces and natural landscapes.

That's an incredible result from our recent community survey, and it shows just how much this place means to us.

With 73% of us wanting to do more to support nature locally, the passion is clearly there. Whether it's creating wildlife-friendly spaces at home, joining a beach clean, or taking part in citizen science, there are so many ways to get involved.

πŸ“Έ We'd love to see Minehead's natural world through your eyes.

🌿 Something beautiful has been growing behind Minehead Methodist Church, and now it's time to share it with you!

After a year of hard work, the dedicated little team from Little Fishes Toddler Group (with some brilliant community support) have transformed the space behind the Methodist Church on The Avenue into The Friendship Garden, a wonderful, accessible outdoor space for everyone in Minehead to enjoy.

πŸŽ€ Come celebrate the grand opening!
πŸ“… Saturday 20th June
πŸ•™ 10am – 2pm
πŸ“ Minehead Methodist Church, The Avenue

There'll be a ribbon cutting, activities to join in with, and plenty of opportunity to have a good nosey around this gorgeous new community space.

Whether you're looking for a spot to hold a group, a meeting, or just a get-together in an enclosed, accessible garden, this could be just the place.

We're also launching our Community Seed Library on the day 🌱 So bring along your spare seeds and seedlings for a swap!
Everyone is welcome.

We're excited to share details of a brilliant community event happening this Friday in Porlock Vale.

Porlock Vale CIC are launching their new community services with a free drop-in event at Porlock Village Hall on Friday 12 June, 10:30am – 4:00pm.

The event will showcase a wide range of health, wellbeing and support services available to residents of the Porlock Vale area, with representatives from over 15 organisations including Age UK, Somerset Lifeline, the Living Better Team and many more.

Special guests include Rachel Gilmour MP, Deputy Lord-Lieutenant Rear Admiral Ian Moncrieff, and High Sheriff of Somerset Peter Dixon.

A fantastic example of community collaboration in action, just the kind of initiative we love to see across our region. 🌟

Pop in any time on the day, all welcome!

❀️ Minehead. A town we're proud to call home.

Our community survey results speak for themselves: 90% of residents say Minehead is a good place to live, and 79% say they're proud to live here.

But behind those numbers is something even more powerful. One of the strongest messages to come through was just how deeply people care about this town, its community spirit, its friendly atmosphere, and its connection to the stunning coast and countryside on our doorstep.

And we see it every day. Across Minehead, there are countless people volunteering their time, supporting local groups, organising events, caring for open spaces, and quietly making this town a better place for everyone.

Time and again, people highlighted the same things that make this town special, that community spirit and a genuine sense of belonging that's hard to find anywhere else.

It's a great reminder of what we have here. 🏑

Of course, there's always more to it than the headlines; there's depth behind the data, and we'll be posting more of the survey findings in the coming weeks. Watch this space! πŸ‘€

Volunteers week 2026 (1 - 7 June)

🌟 Happy Volunteers Week! (1–7 June) 🌟

This week, we're celebrating the incredible volunteers who make Minehead such a special place to live, and there are a lot of you to celebrate!

In our recent community survey, over half of all respondents told us they had volunteered for a local group, club or organisation in the last 12 months. That is a remarkable thing, and it says so much about the spirit of this town. πŸ’™

Whether you give your time to a local charity, a community group, a heritage organisation, a sports club, or anything in between, what you do matters. Minehead wouldn't be the community it is without you.

So from all of us at Minehead and Coast Development Trust, thank you. Genuinely. You are what makes this place tick. πŸ™Œ

And if you're looking for a brilliant way to get involved this summer, the Minehead Bay Festival is looking for volunteers! Head to the link below to find out more πŸ‘‡

πŸ’™ A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to our Minehead Community Survey!

We were absolutely blown away by the response. 214 of you shared your thoughts, experiences and ideas about life in Minehead, and we've loved reading every single one.

We ran this survey because we genuinely want to know what our community thinks. Minehead and Coast Development Trust exists to support and strengthen this town, and we can only do that if we're listening to the people who live here. Your voices really do matter to us.

The results will directly shape our work going forward, and over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing more about what you told us, what you'd like to see, and how we plan to use your feedback.

Watch this space, and thank you again, Minehead. You never fail to show up. πŸ™Œ
