THE FACE BEHIND VOV 👋

Hi, I’m Lea — founder of Value Our Veterans 🇬🇧

Some of you have been here from the beginning. Others have joined somewhere along the way.

VOV started with a simple belief: veteran voices deserve to be heard, properly heard.

Since then, your conversations, experiences, poll responses and messages have helped shape what VOV is becoming.

I’m listening. I’m learning. And I’m turning what you tell me into something that can be evidenced and acted upon.

What started as a page has grown into a community, research, the VOV Community Insight Report and a much bigger mission than I ever imagined.

And behind all of it?

It’s me 😂

No big team. No huge organisation behind the scenes.

Just someone who genuinely believes veterans and their families deserve to be listened to and who is determined to keep building something useful from what you tell me.

There’s so much more to come.

If you've recently found us, welcome.
Value Our Veterans is about listening to the veteran community, raising awareness and making sure veteran voices are heard.

This community includes veterans, families and supporters from across the UK. People with different experiences, different opinions and different stories.

And that's exactly how it should be.

We don't claim to have all the answers.

What we can do is listen, learn, ask the questions that matter and use this platform to make those voices harder to ignore.

Whether you've been following VOV from the beginning or you've just arrived, thank you for being part of it 🤝

BEACON UPDATE FOUND PASSED

It's with incredible sadness that we must update you, Alex "JJ", from Cannock has been found passed. Alex was reported missing on 22 August 2026, sparking a massive public response, with police, search and rescue teams, and volunteers carrying out multiple specialist ground searches.

Cannock Police have confirmed that 33-year-old Alex was found yesterday (Friday 28 August) on Cannock Chase.

Officers attended alongside colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner.

Thank you to everyone who shared this alert and others, and did everything they could to try and bring about a positive resolution to this missing person appeal. Our sincere condolences go out to Alex's family and friends at this difficult time.

BEACON UPDATE | FOUND PASSED

It's with profound sadness that we share the following update from Northumbria Police, who have been leading the investigation into missing soldier, Liam.

"A body has sadly been found in the search for missing Northumberland man Liam.
Concerns were raised on Saturday after the 22-year-old had not returned home following a night out with friends. He was last seen at about 12.20am that day, heading into Wylam from Wylam Bridge. Extensive searches have been carried out since and we made the sad find today in the River Tyne close to Wylam Bridge. Formal identification is yet to take place but Liam’s next of kin have been notified and are currently being supported by specially-trained officers. We do not believe there to be any third-party involvement and a report will be prepared for the coroner."

Our thoughts are with Liam's family and friends during this difficult time. Thank you to everyone who shared this alert.

WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT “SUPPORT”.

I keep seeing it.

“There’s plenty of support available for veterans.”

Okay.

Then why are veterans still telling us they don’t know where to go?

Why are families trying to work out which organisation deals with what?

Why does somebody who is already struggling sometimes have to navigate websites, eligibility criteria, referrals, forms and phone numbers just to find the right door?

We’ve somehow reached a point where we can point to hundreds of services and say:

“Look how much support there is.”

But that's not really the test, is it?

The test is whether the veteran who needs that support can actually find it, access it and get it when they need it.

Those are two very different things.

Maybe instead of counting how many services exist, we should start asking how easy they are to use.

Because a directory full of organisations looks impressive.

It doesn't mean much to the person sitting at home thinking:

“Who the hell am I supposed to call?”
