Domestic abuse survivors to present new art exhibition in Wiltshire

Wiltshire-based charity Alongside, formerly known as Julian House, is inviting the public to a special exhibition celebrating the transformative power of creativity in recovery, wellbeing and healing.

The exhibition will showcase artwork created by individuals who have used art as part of their recovery from domestic abuse, demonstrating how it can support self-expression, confidence, emotional wellbeing and personal growth.

The event aims to spark wider conversations about the importance of creative therapies and community-based support for people overcoming significant life challenges.

Visitors will have the opportunity to view a diverse collection of original artwork and hear inspiring stories behind the pieces, highlighting the role creativity can play in helping individuals rebuild their lives.

The exhibition will feature a number of interactive and engaging activities, including a live collaborative artwork created during the event by renowned performance artist Rose Popay, and opportunities for members of the public to explore their own creativity and experience the benefits of artistic expression firsthand.

The exhibition will also shine a spotlight on the work of Alongside, which supports people affected by domestic abuse, homelessness and other complex challenges in Wiltshire and across the South West.

Helen Bedser, Chief Executive of Alongside Charity, says:

"Many of the people we work alongside have experienced significant trauma and adversity. Art can provide a safe way to communicate experiences, rebuild confidence and rediscover a sense of hope. We are incredibly proud of the artists exhibiting their work and grateful to them for sharing their stories."

"This event is about more than an exhibition. It is about bringing people together, challenging perceptions and raising awareness of the support available for those affected by domestic abuse. We hope visitors leave feeling inspired by the creativity, resilience and strength on display."

The exhibition will take place at The Pound Arts Centre in Corsham from 17-21 November. Find out more here:

COULD YOU BE A GOOD NEIGHBOUR DRIVER?
In every community, there are quiet acts of kindness that make all the difference. Here in Box Colerne and Rudloe, LINK has been providing that lifeline for many years. We are a Good Neighbour Scheme, run entirely by volunteers, and our mission is simple: to help local people who find it difficult to get out and about on their own.
For many residents, especially the elderly, those with mobility challenges, or people living alone, something as ordinary as a hospital appointment or a trip to the GP can feel daunting. That’s where LINK Box steps in. Our volunteer drivers use their own cars to provide safe, reliable transport, ensuring that no one in our community is left isolated or unable to access essential services.
WHY VOLUNTEER?
Becoming a LINK driver is not just about giving lifts. It’s about offering reassurance and companionship. A short journey to the doctor’s surgery can mean the world to someone who would otherwise struggle to get there
Volunteering with LINK is flexible. You choose when you are available, and there is no minimum commitment. Some drivers help once a week, others once a month — every contribution is valued. Mileage expenses are reimbursed, so you’re never out of pocket. What matters most is your willingness to give a little time and care.
THE IMPACT
Our passengers often tell us how much they appreciate the service. For them, LINK is more than transport; it’s a connection to the wider world. For families, it’s peace of mind knowing their loved ones can get to appointments safely. For the community, it’s a reminder that neighbourliness is alive and well.
Without volunteer drivers, LINK simply cannot function. Demand for our service is growing, and we urgently need more people behind the wheel. If you enjoy meeting others, have a car, and want to make a tangible difference, this could be the perfect role for you.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Joining LINK Box is straightforward. We provide guidance, support, and a warm welcome. You’ll be part of a friendly team who share the same goal: keeping our community connected. Whether you’re retired, working part-time, or simply looking for a meaningful way to give back, volunteering as a driver is a rewarding experience.
If you’d like to know more, please contact LINK Box Colerne and Rudloe on 07970 617617 or look at our website. We’d be delighted to answer your questions and explain how you can help.
Could you spare a little time to make a big difference? If so, we’d love to hear from you.
