Mayfacs Repair Cafe The MAYFACS Repair Cafe aims to help reduce waste by encouraging a repair culture in our community. A repair can save time, money and waste.

We are open on the 3rd Saturday of each month at the MAYFACS Community Shed, Merriweathers Farm, Mayfield, TN20 6RJ.

This month, Repair Café took a little road trip to Five Ashes 🚐☀️.

It was a quieter session than usual—maybe the gorgeous sunny morning had something to do with it—but we still had some brilliant repairs come through 🔧. From the classics (kettles, clocks and watches needing new batteries or strap fixes) ⏰🔋 to some real treasures, including an old wooden elephant bowl 🐘 and a 1950s freestanding mirror frame that needed a bit of TLC 🪞✨.

Next month (16th May) we're back at The MMayfacs Community Shed

✨ Another Fantastic Session at the Repair Café! ✨

Our latest Repair Café was buzzing with activity, and we loved helping give treasured items a new lease of life instead of seeing them thrown away. Here’s a glimpse of what our brilliant volunteers worked on:

💡 Small and floor lamps
🪚 Garden electric saw
🔪 Mower blade sharpening
🌿 Garden shears, loppers & secateurs (spring is definitely here!)
🍞 Toaster
🌀 Dyson vacuum
🌱 Strimmer
🪆 A doll with broken legs
🕰️ A mantle clock & wall clock (Tic Toc Dave was busy!)
🎨 A treasured plaster wall plaque
📻 Portable radio

And of course, there was no shortage of cake, coffee, tea, and friendly chat. A huge thank‑you to everyone who came along—and an even bigger thank‑you to our amazing volunteers. We couldn’t do this without you! 💛

🛠️ Another busy session at Mayfield Repair Café! 🛠️
Last Saturday our brilliant volunteers tackled a fantastic mix of repairs, including:
⏰ Clocks
✂️ Garden shears, secateurs & scissors sharpened
🪑 A chair repaired
🍳 Saucepan handle tightened
💍 Earrings fixed (lost stone restored!)
💡 Lamps repaired and UK plugs fitted
🧳 A stubborn suitcase handle
🔦 A trench torch given some TLC
📻 A radio brought back to life
☕ A coffee machine flowing again
🌀 And even a Dyson vacuum back to its cleaning self!

We also saw the return of last month’s swan — now fully fixed and looking fantastic! 🦢✨

As always, there was plenty of cake, coffee and tea, and we were delighted to welcome Evie, who’s volunteering with us as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Award 👏

And just like that the first session of 2026 is here!! Slightly quieter than November's but it gave us all time to breathe and to admire the quirky items that had been brought in for repair.

✅1 x paper shredder 🛠️
✅2 x clocks 🕰️
✅1 x doll ( over 80 years old!!) 👶
✅1 x wooden swan 🦢
✅3 x lamps 💡
✅1 x Kukri knife 🗡️
❌1 x coffee machine ☕️
Various knives and pairs of scissors were sharpened ⚔️✂️

With items being collected and copious amounts of tea, coffee and cake served it was a very enjoyable morning.

Next sessions 21st February from 10am. Last item accepted at 12:15pm.

And that's a wrap for 2025 MAYFACS Repair Cafe but what a session!!! It's certainly getting busier as more of you decide to get your broken items repaired instead of just chucking them! This session we looked at / repaired:
✅2 x Radios 📻
✅1 x Karcher Window Vaccum 🛠️
✅2 x chairs 🪑
✅1 x music stand
✅2 x CD players 📀
✅2 x clocks 🕰️
✅1 x Ladies fan 🪭
✅4 x table lamps 💡
✅1 x set of Christmas tree lights 🎅

We also sharpened 4 pairs of shears, 4 pairs of secateurs & 2 pairs of scissors ⚔️✂️as well as finished off several homemade cakes 🍰☕️. We also made friends with Flickstatt - Deine Reparaturhelden a Repair Cafe based in Switzerland 🇨🇭
