This morning, some of our staff and students had the absolute pleasure of being hosted by guest DM Harry from Forge and Finds for a Curse of Strahd themed adventure! These roleplaying events are fantastic for building students' confidence, social skills, collaboration and imagination.

Yesterday our Woodbridge woodland group foraged for elderflower heads during their walk and took them back to base camp to turn into elderflower fritters. Not only did they taste great, but all the students worked together to make them, building their social skills and teamwork!

πŸ“† Monthly Monday Round-up πŸ“†
This we feel it is important to signpost some places where parents, carers and siblings of young people can support conversations around sexual orientation and/ or gender identity. A great starting point is the Kinship website, which provides definitions, advice and links to organisations that offer support. It states 'The most important thing is to let the young person know that they can talk to you and can be open about how they are feeling without being judged'.
https://kinship.org.uk/support-and-advice/advice-and-information/supporting-a-young-person-exploring-their-sexual-orientation-or-gender-identity/

A more in-depth approach can be found on the YoungMinds website which provides mental health guides and advice tailored towards both young people and parents about a range of specific topics such as trans and non-binary mental health and sexuality and mental health, as well as different cultural and religious identities.

This guide can help you feel informed and comfortable to talk to a young person in your care about their sexuality or gender identity.

One of our post 16 students has spent 3 days working on the 'Volunteer It Yourself' Project in Lowestoft. This is a scheme designed for young people to develop construction skills under the guidance of experienced mentors, whilst refurbishing community facilities. D helped with the refurbishment of the Waveney FC clubhouse, alongside other volunteers and the three mentors. Whilst on the course he gained skills in carpentry, painting and decorating as well as completing a City & Guilds qualification. The mentors commented on D's excellent work ethic and professional behaviour.

As this half term draws to a close, we want to celebrate the students who are never publicly celebrated. The ones who don't like having their photos taken, who don't want to appear on social media, who choose to fly under the radar. This post is for you. We see you, we notice how hard you work, how much progress you are making and although we can't shout about it publicly, we want you to know how valued you are.
