North West English Springer Spaniel Rescue

North West English Springer Spaniel Rescue N.W.E.S.S.R is here to help to care for and rehome English Springer Spaniels. NWESSR has been in existence for over 25 years.

During this time, homes have been found for hundreds of Springer waifs and strays. The work of the charity is forever ongoing. There are many reasons why a dog finds its way into the care of NWESSR:

Some are made homeless due to an owners death or illness. There are always strays who do not have any form of identification; wherever possible we try to unite lost dogs with their families but sadly

this cannot always be the case and they are found new homes. Others are given up because of various domestic crises or they are not wanted any more, perhaps because of long term illness and expense – veterinary bills can be considerable. Some will come from situations where the owner finds they cannot cope with what is a very energetic breed; Springers look cute, especially when they are puppies, but they can be hard work! Most distressing are the cases of physical cruelty and neglect – traumatised dogs are homed with people who are very experienced with the breed. Have the time, the patience and the understanding, to undo the damage caused by ignorance and irresponsibility. Whatever the reason NWESSR is here to help. Considerable care is taken in placing dogs. Families with children under 6yrs will not be offered dogs at all. Families with young children, will not be offered dogs, whose temperament is unknown or questionable. Fortunately, many of our dogs are happy-go-lucky and good natured. Perhaps one of them is just the right companion for you. NWESSR is recognised by the Kennel Club and is listed in the Kennel Club Rescue Directory. NWESSR is a registered charity, and this assists in raising much needed funds to continue our work. The spiralling costs of kennelling , veterinary care and specialist training are an ever present concern to us. Where we operate

NWESSR is the prime Rescue organisation for English Springer Spaniels in the North West, specifically Cumbria, Lancashire, Cheshire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester, North Wales and West Yorkshire. Our Kennels are also based in the North West

✍ Breaking News from our lovely boy Chance πŸ“’

"I just want to tell the whole world that I’ve graduated from Springer School with a First Class Degree πŸŽ“ and have come to live with my wonderful forever family!

Since I arrived I've met lots of new people and I’ve made friends with another doggie called Ralph. We have a lot of fun on walks together 🐾

Our home is near the coast so we go to the beach all the time, and because I am such a good boy I can go off lead while it’s quiet 🀩 We all go camping and I lie on a deck chair in the camper van with the door open, just watching the world go by.

I’m so very happy that my Mum and Dad chose to β€˜Take a Chance on Me’!"

Well done Chance and we wish you all lots of fun and happiness together!

Hi everyone! It was my 13th birthday yesterday πŸŽ‚ I made it - Woo(f)!

I am so fortunate to have been rehomed by NWESSR at a young age and to have spent nearly 12 years of my life with my forever family, not everyone is that lucky.

We went out for a lovely walk down the canal to my favourite woods, my friend - the local heron was even perched up on the embankment to wish me well but unfortunately I didn't see him as my eyesight isn't great.

I got treated to a yummy dinner of my kibble topped with fresh veggies, and steamed sardines πŸ˜‹. Today we're going to the beach 😍

Love from the NWESSR Poster Boy, Milo ###

✍ My Forever Family, by Sadie Springer ✍

Hello everyone, I'm Sadie and I'm here to say a great big THANK YOU to everyone who helped me when I needed a new home.

At 12 years old I'm no spring chicken, and I was a bit worried that nobody would want me, but they did, and here I am in my home with my wonderful paw-rents who adore me πŸ₯°

Since being adopted I've got a whole new lease of life! I was a little, erm, tubby when I arrived, but I've been on a diet, and am following an exercise regime suitable for an older lady, and now I look like a supermodel Springer!

I've got a 'bulldozer nose' and when it's time to get up I poke my nose under the duvet to wake the family up. Who needs an alarm clock when they have a Springer?! I'm also really helpful when we're getting ready to go out and I round up my lead, and all the shoes and boots I can find 😍

In our little village, I'm rapidly becoming everyone's friend. I love meeting people so we go out together to the shops, cafes (where I got a sausage πŸ˜‹), and I'm even welcome at the hairdressers πŸ˜† I also like hanging out at the allotment but gardening isn't really my thing so I sit and watch Mum and Dad hard at work!

I love a paddle and a swim. Mum will be taking me camping in the Yorkshire Dales and Wales at some campsites where I can have lots of adventures, wet and dry πŸ₯³

I'm a very, very happy little lady.

Love and licks, Sadie Springer ###

✍️ Hello folks πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹

My name is Harvey, and here I am with my older brother Toby. I am 10 and he is 12!

Two years ago I was adopted from NWESSR and became part of a loving family πŸ₯°

I'm very proud to announce that I've now been awarded my Kennel Club Silver Award πŸ₯³ I'm now now working towards my KC Gold Award πŸ₯‡

I'm a very good boy, and a very happy Harvey indeed!

πŸ’™ Jim πŸ’™

Jim is a lively boy as you would expect at the age of two years. In his short life so far, he has had a few ups and downs, which this lovely boy has had to cope with and NWESSR thinks he needs a break.

We would very much like his new home to be his forever home, as we think he deserves it.

Jim had the rug pulled out from under him, when his first owner passed away suddenly, and he found himself in a foster, while a new home was found for him. He has been in his present home for eight months. He lives with his owners, a 13-year-old and a younger resident Pointer. Unfortunately, the relationship with the Pointer has suddenly deteriorated due to a little bit of jealousy and the owner doesn’t think it fair to either dog to keep them together.

Jim likes to form a close bond, and is described as having a loving nature. He is generally a pleasure to walk, and has good recall with his owners. He loves to be off lead and is usually fine with other dogs, although tends to be a bit nervous if he doesn’t know them. His favourite things are his toys and playing in water, he enjoys being outside and having lots of fun. He will need a dog and cat free home.

Jim will need new owners who will continue to work on the training he is learning. This will be a big step for Jim, as once again he will need to learn to trust someone new.

This handsome boy will flourish, he is young, full of fun and energy and will make a great companion to do all the enjoyable activities that makes owners and dogs a great team.

If you think you can give Jim that loving home, please visit our website to find out more about the adoption process and complete an online form application.

πŸ₯³ Save the Date - Dogs Day Out 2026! πŸ₯³

Summer is not too far around the corner now, which means that it's not too long until NWESSR's Dogs Day Out! 🐢 This year, our annual event is taking place on Sunday, 28th June 2026 - so pop that date in your diary, as we're all looking forward to seeing you there for another fun-filled afternoon 😊

As always, we're on the look out for more volunteers who can spare some time to help to set up, can help out with the activities or on a stand, can offer a prize for the raffle or tombola, or can bake some cakes or biscuits to sell in the cafΓ©. If you think you can help, please do email: [email protected]

Thank you! πŸ™
