Every child who walks through our gates brings their own story.
Their own fears, anxieties, quirks, and quiet strengths.

Some feel misunderstood.
Some feel isolated.
All of them are searching—for connection, for confidence, for a way to understand themselves.

And that’s where we begin.

Through equine-assisted learning, we don’t try to fit children into a box. We meet them exactly as they are—seeing each one as the unique, incredible individual they truly are.

We take the time to listen.
To understand.
To discover what they need—from us, and from the horses.

Because when the right connection is made, something powerful happens
Confidence starts to grow.
Barriers begin to soften.
And little by little, they start to believe in themselves again.

Every child is different.
Every journey is personal.
And every single one of them is extraordinary.

At Tutsham Academy, we see all the emotions walk through our gates… the fear, the anger, the shutdown, the “I don’t want to be here.”

We know that for some young people, coming here feels like just another place that’s going to get it wrong. Another place that won’t understand. Another place to survive.

But we also see what happens next.

Slowly, the walls come down.
The shoulders drop.
The silence turns into conversation… then laughter.

And that young person who arrived guarded, anxious, or completely switched off… begins to feel safe. Begins to trust. Begins to believe in themselves again.

That transformation is everything.
And we never, ever take it for granted.

Wow Jamie — we couldn’t have said it better ourselves!

We’re already starting to book up for September. If you’re a teacher looking for support for a young person who is struggling to access the curriculum, please get in touch. We’d be really happy to show you what we do and how we can help make a difference.

Maverick, by name—and, we thought, by nature.
But of course, no horse is truly a maverick by nature.

Bringing him in from the field was difficult.
We called it aggression.
We called it anger.
Some called him dangerous.

The truth was, we didn’t understand.

We couldn’t see why being caught triggered such an intense reaction.

Through our work with Lisa (Equicoach.Life), we learned evidence-based equine learning theory—and everything began to change.

Maverick wasn’t aggressive.
He wasn’t angry.

He was scared.

He had learned that being caught meant something negative. His behaviour wasn’t defiance—it was communication.

With patience, consistency, and understanding, we changed that experience. We rebuilt trust. We created something new.

Now, every one of us works with Maverick in the same way. Consistency is key. Understanding his voice is vital.

And now?
We see a horse who is relaxed, safe, and trusting—just as he should be.

And today… this was how he greeted his time-sharer.

To all of those who have helped (& are helping) Mav feel better, thank you x

Yesterday we welcomed back Simon, our brilliant equine dentist, who came to check and treat 15 sets of horsey gnashers.

We take our horses’ dental care seriously and ensure they are seen and treated regularly as part of their ongoing wellbeing.

What could be a stressful experience for our horses is anything but with Simon. His calm, kind approach means each horse gets the very best care with minimal stress, turning something potentially difficult into a positive experience. Their wellbeing is always the priority.

It’s not just the horses who benefit. Simon is fantastic with our students, taking the time to explain what he’s doing, showing them what he can see, and helping them understand why dental care is so important. It’s hands-on learning at its best.

Simon doesn’t just put smiles on our ponies’ faces, he puts them on ours too.

When it’s hot, our horses welfare comes first. No riding for Jamie in the Academy last week but he enjoyed a wonderful Spa day to pamper Spot instead!

Meet Mark… the man who never stops building, fixing, and somehow making the farm even better.

His latest masterpiece? Our brand new jump store right next to the school. Easy access in and out, a tidier arena, and our jumps finally protected from the sun (no more faded poles). Practical, clever, and exactly what we needed.

Honestly, we don’t know what we’d do without you, Mark – thank you for everything you create for us.
