Two images. Two landscapes. One familiar shape. 🌳🐘

Spotted in Samburu and Tsavo - home to our research stations - these elephants were photographed in moments that closely resemble our logo.

In Tsavo, two bulls face each other with trunks extended - a near-perfect reenactment.

In Samburu, two bulls are tusk-to-tusk with trunks curling overhead - a more dynamic take.

We love both interpretations! Which one gets your vote?

Elephants are master engineers of their environment and this little one proves it by turning a fallen tree branch into the perfect head scratcher! 🐘 🌿

Charging for conservation! 🐘⚑

The Rhino Charge, Kenya is underway right here in our backyard, Samburu County, and we're cheering on our very own Ewan Brennan, STE's Head of Tsavo Operations, who is competing with the Danish Kifarus team in Car 54. πŸš—πŸ’¨

The Rhino Charge is more than a race - it's a test of strategy, navigation, and endurance. Sixty-five teams must find the smartest route across roughly 100kmΒ² of rugged wilderness, reaching 13 checkpoints using only a map, a GPS, and their wits.

As someone who spends his days tracking elephants and navigating some of Kenya's wildest landscapes, Ewan knows a thing or two about reading the terrain. Those instincts are getting the ultimate test today.

And the best part? Every team that takes on the Charge raises funds for wildlife conservation. πŸ₯³

Danish Kifarus (Car 54) - let's GOOOOOOOOOOO! πŸ”₯πŸ’ͺ🐘🦏

Next generation of elephants incoming! 🐘

Bull Canaan was recently spotted mating with Pine of the Hardwoods in Buffalo Springs National Reserve, northern Kenya. With lots of food and elephant families on the move, breeding season is in full swing across the reserves. More females are coming into estrus, while musth bulls are actively searching for mates.

Now comes the wait… πŸ‘€

Elephant pregnancies last around 22 months, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on Pine to see if this match results in a little β€œPinanaa” calf in the future. πŸ™‚ 🍍

Knowledge shared is knowledge multiplied! Congratulations to the latest cohort of our Training of Trainers - African People & Wildlife, Tanzania National Parks Authority, Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority, and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority. It's rewarding to see these graduates already stepping up as coexistence champions in Tanzania, helping communities live peacefully alongside elephants. πŸ‘πŸ˜

⚠️ Sensitive content: this post includes one graphic image depicting the body of an elephant following a fatal fight.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of Malasso, one of our most beloved Samburu bulls, who died following a fight with another bull. πŸ’”

A frequent visitor to our research camp in Samburu National Reserve, Malasso succumbed to severe wounds to his throat and neck after clashing with another bull named Mohammed Ali. Both were 27 years old and in musth - a heightened state of sexual activity during mating season that brings on intense aggression in male elephants. 🐘

A member of the Royals family, Malasso held a special place in the hearts of our staff and guests, known for the gentle, easy temperament he showed around people. One of his most endearing habits was tiptoeing carefully along the paths behind our cabins, as though trying not to disturb anyone - a quiet presence we will deeply miss. πŸ˜”

There is some comfort in knowing that only the day before, Malasso was seen mating with females in the area. We hope that through them, his bloodline - and his gentle spirit - will live on for generations to come. ❀️

RIP Malasso. We will miss you.

Congratulations to our partners at EarthRanger on celebrating a decade of impact for wildlife and our planet!

Originally developed from Save the Elephants’ Elephant Real-time Monitoring System, EarthRanger has grown into a powerful conservation platform now helping protect species and landscapes across the globe. Today, it also powers our own tracking platform, STE WildTracks.

We’re incredibly proud to have played a role in its foundations, and to see the vision of our late founder, Dr. Iain Douglas-Hamilton, and STE Research Associate, Jake Wall, continue to make such a lasting impact.

Be sure to check out their latest impact report, featuring an introduction by our CEO, Frank Pope.

Monday morning energy. πŸ˜…

We've all been this little one - struggling to get going while mum stands by patiently. Hang in there, it gets easier as the week goes on.

Happy Monday!
