Hibernia Council No.289
Consecration - Thursday 2nd July 2026
A historic day in the Hibernia Franchise. Modeled on the ethos of Hibernia Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 431, Hibernia Lodge of Royal Ark Mariner No. 431 and Hibernia Conclave of the Order of the Secret Monitor No.637, all built on quality ritual and fine dining.

We witnessed the latest in the Hibernian franchise with the consecration of Hibernia Council No. 289 in the Allied Masonic Degrees.

The petitioners assembled in the Grand Temple at Mark Masons' Hall to see the Grand Master M.W. Bro. Thomas Firth Jackson and his team consecrate the new Council. The Primus Master R.W. Bro. Scott Cargill District Grand Prefect was duly installed by the Deputy Grand Master R.W. Bro. Colin Woodcock MBE.

The primus Master then appointed and invested his officers before passing a proposition to make the consecrating team Honorary members.

The petitioners who had assembled left as Founders and retired to the Earl of Euston room for much needed refreshment followed by a light lunch.

At their next merry meeting the new council will conduct the ceremony of St. Lawrence the Martyr and also conduct an installation, installing a young up and coming AMD Brother Tom Quinn into the Chair.

Britannic Council of Madeira No.46 & Eric White Council No. 136 join forces.

On Friday 19th June, 2 Councils joined forces to give a great evening of ritual and merriment.

Eric White Council No. 136 from the District of Esssex, held their meeting first with members of Britannic Council of Madeira joining them for their short business meeting.

Members of Eric White Council then joined the meeting of Britannic Council of Madeira where firstly the Degree of St. Lawrence the Martyr was undertaken to admit into the order a very well known Brother on the Masonic circuit, Bro. Paul Cutts. The degree was conducted in fine style by the WM, W.Bro.Lance Pusey.

SLM completed the temple was transformed for the degree of The Red Cross of Babylon, with six brethren receiving the degree. The Royal Arch was conducted mostly by members of Britannic Council of Madeira, with W.Bro.David Clemson taking the principles chair.

Members of Eric White Council then took the principle offices to conduct the Persian Court with W. Bro. Jules Greenwall giving an excellent performance. We even had time for a break with wine and ham sandwiches, with Jules providing the ham!

All done and dusted members of both Councils retired to enjoy a magnificent festive board with fine food and wine all topped off by a toast to our next merry meeting.

Universal Council No. 286
Welcomes the District Grand Prefect
"It is a truth Universally acknowledged that a man in possession of a good council, must be in for great meeting" - Jane Austin, Pride and Prejudice, AMD Green Version

And so it proves with the latest outing of Universal Council No.286 on Friday 5th June at Mark Mason's Hall. With great numbers attending and Brethren from all over the world being present, it was just, that we met in the Grand Temple.

W. Bro. Brian Sarre kicked off the meeting by welcoming the Brethren, then once a Lodge of St. Lawrence had been opened, the Council welcomed the District Grand Prefect, R.W. Bro. Scott Cargill and a delegation of District Grand Officers into the meeting. The DGP, also be a founding member and very much the driving force behind the Council's creation.

Formalities over, the WM then conducted the St. Lawrence the Martyr degree to admit into our Order, Bro. Jonathan Rose. The ceremony being conducted in fine style by the WM and his officers and concluding with a great rendition of the Lecture by Bro. John Palmer.

The room was then prepared for the ceremony of Grand High Priest, with 9 Brethren being Anointed, Consecrated and Set Apart to that office. Bro. Martin Payne acted as the nominated candidate with the ritual being conducted, once again, in an excellent manner by the Worshipful Master.

You would think that would be enough for one meeting, but no, Universal is on another level and so finished off the meeting by Installing W. Bro. Bharat Epur into the chair of St. Lawrence and thereby Master of Universal Council. Officers appointed and duly invested the newly installed Master closed the lodge in due form.

The Brethren then assembled in the Euston room for a superb meal with fine wines, laughter and brotherly companionship which in itself sums up the ethos of the Order in general and Universal Council in particular. Toasts were toasted, responses given and duly responded to, the evening concluded in the traditional AMD manner with a toast to our next merry meeting.
