Universal Council No. 286
Welcomes the District Grand Prefect
"It is a truth Universally acknowledged that a man in possession of a good council, must be in for great meeting" - Jane Austin, Pride and Prejudice, AMD Green Version
And so it proves with the latest outing of Universal Council No.286 on Friday 5th June at Mark Mason's Hall. With great numbers attending and Brethren from all over the world being present, it was just, that we met in the Grand Temple.
W. Bro. Brian Sarre kicked off the meeting by welcoming the Brethren, then once a Lodge of St. Lawrence had been opened, the Council welcomed the District Grand Prefect, R.W. Bro. Scott Cargill and a delegation of District Grand Officers into the meeting. The DGP, also be a founding member and very much the driving force behind the Council's creation.
Formalities over, the WM then conducted the St. Lawrence the Martyr degree to admit into our Order, Bro. Jonathan Rose. The ceremony being conducted in fine style by the WM and his officers and concluding with a great rendition of the Lecture by Bro. John Palmer.
The room was then prepared for the ceremony of Grand High Priest, with 9 Brethren being Anointed, Consecrated and Set Apart to that office. Bro. Martin Payne acted as the nominated candidate with the ritual being conducted, once again, in an excellent manner by the Worshipful Master.
You would think that would be enough for one meeting, but no, Universal is on another level and so finished off the meeting by Installing W. Bro. Bharat Epur into the chair of St. Lawrence and thereby Master of Universal Council. Officers appointed and duly invested the newly installed Master closed the lodge in due form.
The Brethren then assembled in the Euston room for a superb meal with fine wines, laughter and brotherly companionship which in itself sums up the ethos of the Order in general and Universal Council in particular. Toasts were toasted, responses given and duly responded to, the evening concluded in the traditional AMD manner with a toast to our next merry meeting.
