Corbett Community Library

Corbett Community Library We are a mainly volunteer-run and charity-funded centre - still providing the same library services, and more at that!

The Archibald Corbett Society and the Corbett Residents Association have joined forces to create the Corbett Community Library, Arts and Heritage Centre as a charity and taken over the management of Torridon Road Library from Lewisham Council. The Library has been developed into a community hub, the Corbett Community Centre, to promote the following charitable purposes: the advancement of educatio

n, the advancement of arts and heritage and the advancement of citizenship and community development for the benefit of residents living within the surrounding area with a specific emphasis on services for families and young and older people. The existing library service has been extended to encourage digital inclusion, provide weekly sessions for school groups and weekend tuition for school children and develop family and adult education facilities. The Library has become a centre for encouraging local residents to learn about the heritage of the area they reside in. The Charity has also advanced the arts through regular exhibitions promoting the work of local artists and craft makers, holding music recitals featuring local musicians and hosting performances. The Library is a Dementia Friendly Centre and holds activities for older people to include their carers and a number of advice services are available targeted at different age groups.

It's this week and to celebrate we asked our amazing volunteers what they like about volunteering with us! Thank you to everyone who has volunteered with us now and in the past, whether on reception, running activities, helping out with events, working on the board, and more! We really appreciate it and couldn't operate without you!

Mindful Mondays
Every Monday we meet to practice mindfulness through meditation, slow walking and mindful discussion. We meet for 2 hrs, although you can come for what time you can manage. The session provides an oasis of calm and mental health wellbeing through a loose and relaxed format. No prior experience of practice is needed to build your tools and help facilitate your own sanctuary from our busy lives.

Join us for however long you can from 7pm. It’s free and you are most welcome. Mondays, 7-9pm, Corbett Community Library.

All donations welcome.

“In caring for my Dad and being a mum of young ones during this time, at times, I felt MM was my only sanctuary from the chaos, just that short time once a week was enough to keep me sane…” LB

“Mindfulness enhances my mental health through life’s ups and downs. Monday evenings ground me and I find calm and relaxation ready for the remaining week.” GN
