When Jay came to our hospice, he and his family weren’t sure what to expect.

His pain had become too difficult to manage at home and after weeks in hospital, his family were worried that coming to a hospice meant something they weren’t ready to face.

But hospice care is about so much more than what they imagined.

With round-the-clock care and support, our team helped get Jay’s pain under control, reviewed his medication and gave his family the reassurance they needed to feel confident about caring for him at home.

For his daughter Dina, it’s been a huge relief. For Jay, the care has been so good that he compared it to a “seven-star hotel in Dubai.”

But perhaps the most powerful part of his story is what happened beyond the medical care. His family felt cared for too.

Because when someone you love is unwell, you need more than treatment. You need to know you’re not facing it alone.

A simple gesture that made a big difference.

During the recent heatwaves, our nurses and care teams have continued supporting people across our community, travelling between homes and appointments in some very warm conditions.

When we put out a slightly unusual request for insulated water bottles, Richard Sullivan at Navillus Print Gifts Ltd was quick to help. Thanks to his generosity, our teams have been able to stay hydrated while out and about caring for local people.

What seemed like a small gift has had a much bigger impact than we realised. Not only was our Director of Nursing, Debbie Marsh, incredibly grateful, but team members from across the hospice have stopped to tell us how much difference the bottles have made to their day.

Thank you, Richard, for supporting our staff in such a thoughtful way. It's a wonderful example of how our community comes together to support the people who care for others.

🧡 This is our final weekend at Labyrinth on the Thames 🧡

If you're heading to the Old Royal Naval College for Labyrinth on the Thames this weekend, come and find us in the market area.

We've brought along a pop-up Community Hospice charity shop packed with hand-picked pieces from our stores, with fresh stock arriving every day.

You'll also find our Heart of Kindness Wall, where you can dedicate a heart to someone special. 🧡

Over the last two weekends, we've seen hundreds of beautiful messages shared in memory, gratitude and celebration. Every heart tells its own story.

Our team will also be on hand to chat about hospice care, volunteering, fundraising and the different ways you can get involved in supporting local people and families.

Every donation and purchase made at our stand helps people across Greenwich and Bexley to live as well as they can, for as long as they can.

So pop by, say hello, dedicate a heart and have a browse.
