Next up is Linda's 'Local Treasure'.

"I'm nominating Diggens & Martin on behalf of the whole team - because honestly, what would we do without them? Open before any of us have had our first coffee, always friendly, always there. Whether it's a chocolate hit, a fizzy drink fix, or that chicken biryani - you already know, they've got what just what you want."

They're just opposite our front door and we love them. Simple as that."

So what is the gap? For Owen and Tristan it comes down to knowledge versus technology. One generation has the savings and the hard-won experience. The other has the tools. Which rather suggests families do best when the two talk to each other.

Our next 'Local Treasure' as nominated by Nat.

Simi’s Italian Deli in Charlton Village is truly a local gem, bringing a warm and friendly atmosphere to the neighbourhood. It has become a family favourite thanks to its variety of fresh and store cupboard products, alongside a fantastic, dedicated gluten-free range that ensures there is something delicious for absolutely everyone.

It’s more than just a deli; it’s a welcoming community staple that brings the whole family together over great food.

We asked Owen and Tristan: if your parent or grandparent needed financial advice, what would you tell them? Three days in, their answers were sharper than we expected.

This summer we welcomed Owen and Tristan for a week of work experience. Their mission: find the gap between their generation and the people we help. First surprise – what they thought financial advice actually was. (If you thought the same at 17, you're in good company.)

📚 Our first Local Treasure: Jo from ABC Book Club
Jo believes every child deserves a school library. She's built 45 of them across south east London, each one designed by the children themselves - right down to the twinkly lights.
"I can guarantee that within five minutes, every single one of those children is sitting down with a book. And that's when I think: this is why I do what I do."

Kelly nominated Jo because her passion and sheer determination have transformed the lives of thousands of local children. Having watched her open library number 45, we'd say she chose well.

We had a lovely time with 60 Up C.I.C at Honor Oak Community Centre last month. Cat joined their members for an informal session, chatting through some of the later-life planning questions closest to the group's hearts.

It was relaxed, welcoming and full of great questions from a group genuinely keen to learn more. Exactly the kind of community connection we love being part of.

A big thank you to Christina and the team at 60 Up CIC for having us. 💛
