Family and Friends Support at Recovery Cymru

Free, confidential peer support for anyone affected by a loved one’s alcohol or drug use

When someone is struggling with alcohol or other drug use, the impact rarely stops with them. Family members and friends are often left trying to cope with stress, uncertainty and changing relationships, without the right support around them.

Recovery Cymru’s Family and Friends Programme exists to change that. It is free, confidential and non-judgmental, supporting people whether their loved one is still actively using, in recovery, or no longer in contact.

The programme is peer-led and shaped by lived experience, offering a space where people can speak openly and be understood. Support includes 1:1 recovery coaching, telephone and email support, and guidance through difficult situations, as well as family and friends groups and a drop-in at the Health Hwb in Barry (www.healthhwb.co.uk), giving people the chance to connect with others who understand.

Recovery Cymru is a peer-led recovery community based in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, providing groups, activities and community support throughout the year. The Family and Friends Programme plays a key role in ensuring that those affected are not left to navigate things alone.

Cardiff Third Sector Council (C3SC), in partnership with Transport for Wales (TfW) is offering up to £500 to youth-led and youth-involving organisations to engage young people in active travel.

The ‘Let’s Talk Active Travel’ Small Grant aims to support projects that:

Engage young people aged 14–25 in conversations about how they currently travel, including their use of walking, wheeling, cycling, and public transport, and explore the challenges and opportunities linked to active and sustainable travel.

Explore young people’s perceptions and lived experiences of barriers to active travel, including walking, wheeling, cycling, and accessing and using public transport (including journeys to and from bus stops and train stations).

Support young people to co‑design and deliver activities, campaigns, or solutions that encourage reduced reliance on cars and increased use of active travel and public transport as part of everyday journeys.

Provide meaningful volunteering opportunities for young people aged 14–25 to help design, promote, and deliver initiatives that support active travel and greater use of public transport within their communities.

Key Dates:
• Application deadline: Friday 12th June 2026
• Notification of outcome: Friday 10th July 2026
• Final project report due: Monday 1st February 2027

Please note that successful applicants will be required to attend a short introductory session on Active Travel shortly after receiving their grant offer.

Every person can make a difference.

Why Not Try Volunteering as a Family?

This opportunity allows parent and child to volunteer outdoors together.

Become a woodland weekend volunteer and enjoy spending time in the wonderful Welsh countryside.

You’re invited to help us give our lovely woodland some TLC!

If you love nature, and want to spend more time outdoors, this is the perfect volunteering opportunity for you! Grab a friend and come along together. Pull your wellies on and make new connections and friendships as an Amelia Trust woodland weekend volunteer.

Getting outside in the fresh air is a brilliant way to give your mental health a boost, reset after the working week, be active, and have fun.

Volunteering is for everybody. Why not give it a try?

🎉 A Huge Thank You to Our Wonderful Volunteers! 🎉

Today we had the absolute pleasure of celebrating our incredible volunteers at CF61 in Llantwit Major — and what a fantastic afternoon it was. We treated everyone to a delicious buffet, great company, and brilliant live music from a local Ukulele Club that filled the room with smiles.

Our volunteers give so much of their time, energy and heart to support our organisation, and today was just a small way of showing how much we appreciate everything they do. Volunteers make a real difference every single day, and we are so grateful.

Part of Volunteers’ Week, celebrating the amazing volunteers who strengthen communities across the Vale.
