** 'RAF' Lakenheath and Mildenhall Update **

'RAF' Lakenheath and Mildenhall continue to be heavily involved in the attacks on Iran.

Although a few planes have returned from the Middle East during July, most of the fighter/bombers that were deployed from Lakenheath remain there. They were joined by another 36 in July with some of the departing the day or our July vigil (https://lakenheathallianceforpeace.org.uk/f-15es-fly-off-to-bomb-iran-as-protesters-hold-vigil/).

There are regular flights of KC-135 refuelling planes between 'RAF' Mildenhall and Israel. While deployed in Israel they carry out frequent flights although we are unable to track what planes that they are refuelling (https://lakenheathallianceforpeace.org.uk/raf-lakenheath-and-mildenhall-update-august-2026/).

Some of the KC-135 show the signs of being badly damaged while in the Middle East:

As well as the refuelling planes Mildenhall is an important intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance base. Reconnaissance aircraft recently flew off the northern coast of the Russian Federation which is an important military site that is home to a large proportion of the Russian nuclear submarines (https://lakenheathallianceforpeace.org.uk/mildenhall-plane-monitors-russian-base/)

** Lakenheath Protests **

Court update on the peace warriors who blockaded the gates at Lakenheath at the peace camp in April:

On the day of the big blockade, hundreds blocked the main gate, stopping ‘business as usual’ for just short of two hours. We sat, sang, danced and protested in the gateway and (mostly) moved away when the police asked us to. Two people refused to leave the road and were arrested.

Days later, a group blockaded the same gate with lock-ons. After blocking the gate for about six hours they were cut out and arrested and another gate was held for several hours with a lively mass blockade where there was only one arrest.
Fourteen people were charged and appeared in Ipswich Magistrates court in June, (most were on screen and three people went to court in person) to find that the prosecution did not have the necessary evidence against us lined up. The CPS (Crown Prosecution) barrister was told by the court that they needed to provide us with all the evidence against us by 7th June. We were not expected to plead (guilty or not guilty) until we had seen the evidence.

The latest news is that, so far, none of us have heard a word more from the prosecution. We will appear in court again at 10am on 22nd September at Norwich Magistrates Court. Although we have permission to attend on screen, one of the protesters will appear in person. She would love to see any supporters there and she'll be more than happy to have a chat afterwards.

There are no guarantees, but it’s possible the prosecution will drop all charges… so watch this space!

**Zaporizhzhia: Nuclear Power - So Safe **

Brokered ceasefire takes effect for repairs at Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant. A local ceasefire brokered by the International Atomic Energy Agency took effect on Saturday to allow repairs to restore external power to the ‌Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southeastern Ukraine, the IAEA said. The plant has been without external power since August 20 and has relied on emergency diesel generators to cool its vital safety systems.

☮️**CND Cymru Today at Swansea’s Red Line Event**☮️

On September 5th 2026 about 600 people (possibly more) gathered outside the Guildhall in Swansea. The Red Line to stop the genocide in Gaza and the occupation and brutality being wrought by Israel in Palestine wound its way through Swansea. Masses of people stood watching and applauding as the Red Line went by. The names of the dead children were read out and the Red Rebels accompanied the Red Line. It raised a lot of awareness and people joined us as we walked through the centre of town.

** And Drone Sites e.g. Aberporth Are Now Targets **

As Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) become cheaper and more accessible, the time investment required will contract. Emerging technologies reinforce one another, bringing new innovations and unexpected advantages.

The combination of 3D printing (an additive manufacturing process) with advances in robotics and the availability of off-the-shelf quadcopters is already transforming the drone landscape.

Today, Ukraine and Syria demonstrate the accelerated pace of innovation, from concept to implementation to large-scale production of first-person view drones. In the coming years, the diffusion of mass-market drones as well as the availability of high-tech components will only grow.

Drone technology, once confined to great powers like the United States and China, has spread to smaller states and non-state actors.
