At Llandudno Oval Bowling club our green received its first winter cut today, after the scarifying and reseeding at the beginning of the month, and it looks great already!

Meanwhile, our volunteers are making progress on our gutter upgrade project replacing the old wooden boards with concrete blocks. These will be covered in rubber and astroturf, providing a long term sustainable solution for excess water management around the green.

It was a hive of activity down at Llandudno Oval Bowling club today as eighteen magnificent volunteers prepared the bowling green and gardens ready for the winter. First the green was scarified in every direction to remove the excess thatch, then it was over seeded and brushed, followed by two fertiliser treatments, then it was all watered in. Finally bird deterrents were installed to protect the seed. The weather was perfect and the hardworking team were kept fed with bara brith and bacon and sausage baps washed down with teas and coffee. Thanks to every one of the volunteers, we are so lucky to have so many members who are passionate about our club.

Based on how the green already looks now after all that work, we’re going to be in for a real bowling treat next season!

It’s the last weekend of the bowling season this coming Saturday and Sunday 3/4 October. Afterwards the green will be closing and Monday morning our team of volunteers will start the winter maintenance programme.

LOBC members are encouraged to come down for the last opportunity for some social bowling this year.

NEW MEMBERS will be most welcome to join Llandudno Oval Bowling club when we reopen the green in mid-March 2027. Prospective members be they experienced players or persons new to the game are welcome to come down and try out the green between now and Sunday. We are open for two sessions each day 10:00-12:30 & 14:00-16:30. Prospective members can speak to a club coach, including discussing opportunities for league bowling and registering their interest to join next season.

If you can’t make it this weekend, but are still interested, contact the club Secretary using the contact details shown below.

The competitive bowling season came to an end yesterday, when we played our last Gwynedd Seniors League match away versus Peibio (Holyhead). The disappointment of a 2-7 defeat on a challenging green was tempered by the knowledge we had secured fourth place in the division. Year on year improvement in the squad has been most encouraging and we look forward to continuing that next season.

⚠️ 2026 BIKE and BREW PASSPORT ⚠️
💛COMMUNITY GRANT UPDATE 💛

Every penny from each passport donation goes straight into the Bike & Brew Community Grant fund, turning the power of the motorbike community into practical support where it is needed most❣️

Here is the list of the organisations that we have been able to support so far:

Hearts In The Stand £1,100

To ensure that every fan, player, steward, and spectator has the knowledge and feels empowered to perform effective CPR skills in an emergency.

Llandudno Oval Bowling club £5,000

for community events such as quizzes, fêtes, talks and workshops, including for the elderly and/or less mobile.

************************************

Given the amazing success of the Bike and Brew Passport Event we have the capacity to support a lot more community focussed organisations.

If you know a charity or community group that may benefit please get in touch ([email protected]) and we can discuss how they might access the funds.

This is all possible because of YOU and we are so incredibly grateful for the support, encouragement and participation from everyone who has taken part.

We are an amazing Community ❤️

The ongoing fundraising initiative by Llandudno Oval Bowling Club to refurbish its historic clubhouse received a major boost recently. We were delighted to learn we had been successful in our grant application to the charity ‘Make Your Mark.’ They have awarded LOBC £5,000 which will be used to buy new tables and chairs for the clubhouse.

In supporting our project, they said, “we were particularly pleased to see how your work supports our aim of helping grassroots, volunteer-led, community-based organisations.”

Motorbiker Acts of Random Kindness (MARK) is a UK grassroots movement and registered charity (Make Your Mark) that harnesses the motorcycling community to support mental health and local causes. https://makeyourmark.co.uk/

LOBC is extremely grateful for the generosity and support of the motorbiking community. We hope that when our clubhouse refurbishment project is completed we can welcome visiting motor-bikers for a game of bowls and afternoon tea!

Throughout the season members of the Llandudno U3A have been attending a regular Crown Green Bowling course every Monday morning at Llandudno Oval Bowling club. Club coaches have instructed newbies with the basics of the game and over the period of the course everyone has developed great skills. Last Tuesday the LOBC U3A group hosted a friendly fixture against members of the Eirias Park U3A bowls group. Everyone enjoyed the experience. Next week the LOBC course comes to an end with a final flourish of bowls & cake!

The course will be run again next year commencing in April. Members of the U3A are encouraged to look out for the notices prior to the start of the new season.
