Well! What a wild few weeks we've had at pre-school!

Two sessions a week at wildspace, lots of time in the garden, and especially the mud kitchen getting very muddy. The rain has not stopped us having fun as we love muddy puddles!

The children are a nature loving, outdoorsy group, they love wildspace. They play so wonderfully there, following the rules to keep ourselves safe. We are so proud of how well they behave. At Wildspace we've toasted marshmallows to make s'mores, made rope swings, and explored with magnify glasses and binoculars. The children had noticed some litter on our walk down to wildspace, so this week we safely used some litter pickers to help tidy up our local environment. We have been learning about the life cycle of a plastic bottle and a cardboard box - following on from our animal life cycles. We have been learning about why recycling is important.

We also released our butterflies before half term, which was a wonderful moment.

We have been exploring using real tools with adult support, and will be using real tools to make our Father's day gifts in the next two weeks! Very exciting.

Unfortunately we have to cancel the parent sleep workshop this afternoon due to low numbers.

Thank you.

Happy Friday!

We've had a fantastic week - two busy sessions at Wildspace. We toasted marshmallows and made s'mores this week! We talked a lot about safety around fire. The children behaved so well and listened carefully. They all had BIG smiles whilst eating their s'mores! This is something from our *50 Things your child will do whilst at Stepping Stones*.

We are keeping a close eye on our chrysalises. Each day we continue to complete our diary and we are hoping for some movement before half term! We have been making stained glass butterflies for our windows, which look lovely when the sun shines through. We have also been learning about symmetrical patterns when colouring in butterflies.

The children are continuing to learn about life cycles - we have been looking at the life cycle of a sunflower and learning the parts of a flower. We planted our bean seeds and have been watering them daily. They are starting to grow and soon will be transferred into pots, your child can bring home and continue to look after. Linking to science we put some of our bean seeds in the cupboard with no sunlight, and some without water. We have been making predictions on what might happen, and learning about what plants need to grow. Our sunflower seeds have started to sprout too!

I am pleased to share with you that we have teamed up with Wisbech Child & Family Centres and will be offering a free parent workshop on Monday 8th June 2026 at 2pm - 3pm.

The workshop will be led by the Wisbech Child & Family Centres and will focus on Sleep and bedtime routines.

- The importance of sleep
- Sleep patterns
- Establishing good bedtime routines
- Waking in the night
- Nightmares and terrors
- Top tips!

This workshop will be available for all parents and carers in our Leverington community. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided. A great opportunity for parents to share experiences, chat and get some top tips and advice about sleep for your child.

If you would like to attend but childcare is a problem, and your child is aged between 2-4. You can bring them along and they can play in the garden but will be the responsibility of the attending adult at all times.

We are really excited to offer this to our parents and also to parents in the village who may not have the opportunity to attend groups or workshops. We plan to host more workshops like these in the upcoming year!

*Edit* Thank you everyone - it's all in hand and will be done this evening by a kind parent! Thank you!

We need some help! We use the public walkway down to Roman Bank twice a week for our Wildspace sessions. However, the stingy nettles are getting very long and taking over the path. Is there anyone local who would be willing to strim these back for us making the pathway safer for the children to walk through? We would greatly appreciate any help with this!

Thank you!

A little update on our caterpillars! They have now almost all spun themselves a chrysalis and we are preparing to move them shortly into the net enclosures. The children have been sorting pasta shapes into the life cycle of a caterpillar. We have also learnt 'The Fuzzy Caterpillar' song.

This week using the Eatwell guide we have been discussing healthy choices. The children have been learning about the different food groups and have been sorting food into the correct group. We made a display to show everything we have learnt.

We had a wonderful morning with a visit from The Animal Experience!

The children got to touch, hold and stroke a meerkat, a blue-tongued skink, a bearded dragon, a tortoise, a tenrec, and a python! Lots of the children were brave enough to hold the snake around their neck too.

What a fantastic way to start the week!

We want to share with you all about our Caterpillars at pre-school! We have been observing them grow, making predictions about what will happen next and asking some wonderful questions. Such as...
"Can they bite, have they got teeth?"
"When will they turn into butterflies?"
"How long will it take?"
We had predictions from the children from 5 days to 10 years!

We have been collating a Caterpillar diary, each day the children write the number of days it has been and draw a picture of the changes they can see. The children have drawn wonderful pictures of caterpillars, as well as making paper chain caterpillars this week. We will keep you posted during each step of the life cycle.

This term we are learning all about the life cycles of different animals. We will be learning what plants need to grow and survive, also planting our own sunflowers and cucumbers. Our book focus this term is 'The Hungry Caterpillar' and 'Ten Seeds'.
