Birchall Playing Fields parkrun

It was a wet and slightly windy morning Birchall Playing Fields parkrun on Saturday for event 72, but nevertheless we still had 129 runners and walkers turn up to take on the 3 laps of the playing fields.

We had 5 people completing there first ever park run 👏 13 pbs ✅ and 10 volunteers to enable the event to take place.
Please remember, no volunteers no park run so please come and join the team if you can, all jobs are really easy and we will very grateful for your help.

Also a big shout out to our newest Run director Pat Trafford who lead a seamless event and delivered a pre race brief like he had done it many times before. Well done Pat 👏

This morning, during our pre race brief, we delivered very sad news. Earlier in the week, Sam, one of our run directors, who many of our regulars will be familiar with, passed away suddenly. Sam was the initial driving force behind getting the town of leek a parkrun and for that we will always be grateful. It has come as a great shock to everyone involved at Birchall and our thoughts at this sad times are foremost with his family and friends. In the coming weeks we will be planning an event to celebrate Sam’s life, which will share with you once we have more details.

Thank you to all volunteers and participants for joining us in a minutes applause to remember Sam and what he bought to our town.

Hats off to the 138 people who took part this morning, you all did amazingly well. Well done to the seven people who did your very first parkrun. We hope you enjoyed it and will be back soon 😍

This week, we had Kirsty making her RD debut. The core team thought she did an amazing job and she passed the test with flying colours (it was never in doubt tbh 🤣).

For event #69, we had 162 people taking part with 27 PBs and 13 people giving parkrun a go for the very first time.
