Prof Annalu Waller and Beth Moulam (ex Trustee of Communication Matters) roll up to the CM’s 40th Anniversary Celebratory dinner in their respective mobility scooter and motorised wheelchair.

Prof Waller is at the top of her career in AAC research and is Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the School of Science, Engineering and Environment at the University of Salford. She has presented at Communication Matters Conference in multiple years.

Beth Moulam is a social policy researcher, author, AAC advocate, AAC user and was, until very recently, a Trustee for Communication Matters. She stood down from the Board to enable her to promote her new book ‘How to live audAACiously: the ultimate lived experience guide to AAC’ and to study for her PhD.

We are delighted that Conference creates opportunities for friendship and professional networking for these brilliant women.

Learning to use AAC isn’t linear. It’s a learning experience for the whole family. The way we communicate around regular daily tasks is different from discussing ideas, wishes and dreams, problems and obstacles. Communication is harder when we are tired, hungry or even, hangry!

We are delighted to announce that Kumba Koroma, Director of Operations at Liberator has joined the Communication Matters' Board of Trustees following our call for nominations in July 2026.

Kumba has more than 23 years of experience in practical AAC and strategic governance — and we are already looking forward to all the ways that she can support and guide CM in being more accountable, sustainable and effective for AAC users.

The AAC Study Day at the University of Leeds on Wednesday 16 October gave us two workshops to challenge our creative and innovative muscles. Thank you to Sarah Hayward, Jo Holmes and Prof Jeff Higginbotham for their thought leadership.
