Join Sam Macvie, Warwickshire vice-county recorder for bryophytes, to learn about these amazing little plants which are all around us. Find out the difference between mosses and liverworts, how to identify some of the common species you may find in Foundry Wood and in your garden, as well as why the British Isles are such a fantastic place for these species internationally. If you have a hand lens, please do bring it, otherwise these will be provided.

Bryophytes are better in the rain (or just after), so inclement weather needn’t be a problem. However, please dress appropriately for the season.

There are limited spaces so please book your FREE place via the EventBrite link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/discover-the-wonderful-world-of-mosses-and-liverworts-tickets-1998667750043?aff=oddtdtcreator

Meet at the Open Classroom at 2pm.

Email [email protected] if you have any questions.

Halloween is coming and, with it, children’s tales for the spooky season. It’s time for spooks and ghouls and freaks and fools, as award-winning storyteller Jason Buck brings heroes and monsters to life in Leamington’s Foundry Wood (details below).

Comments people have made about Jason’s events:

“Thoroughly enjoyed Jason’s stories today. My 9 year old loved them too. I was worried he might get bored (as young boys do) and despite his constant wriggling he remained enthralled. He told me he closed his eyes at one point, listened to the story with great sound effects”. Samantha, Chester

“Jason Buck is a man made of myth, magic and mead. His stories are filled with adventure, his beard is full of unexpected twists and his tankard filled with a poet’s brew. Sit around the fire and listen to his tales – you won’t be disappointed.” Abbie, Strange Times Storytelling Club

Tickets are available on EventBrite here - https://www.foundrywood.co.uk/events/spooks-in-the-woods-halloween-stories-for-children-families/

IMPORTANT…
Foundry Wood is an open air woodland site and there are some things you need to consider when you visit:
– Entrance / exit time: As the site will be closed to the public during the show, the gates will be locked 5 minutes before the start, and late entries cannot be admitted, and refunds cannot be given. People will be able to leave at any time, if required, as volunteers will be on hand.
– Parking and accessibility: Please see the wood’s website here www.foundrywood.co.uk/location
– Seating: Some log stump seats and rustic benches are provided, but you may wish to bring camping chairs for extra comfort.

– Refreshments: There are no facilities for refreshments at the woodland, other than a drinking water tap, near the entrance. Feel free to bring your own to enjoy before or during the show (just be mindful of noisy packaging and cans).

Our Monthly Volunteer Mornings are back! A huge thank you to everyone who came along on Sunday for the first one back after summer at Foundry Wood.

With the storms over the last few days and such strong winds, there was plenty for our woodland maintenance volunteers to do. They worked hard to clear broken branches, trim over grown greenery , inside and outside Foundry Wood. They cleared wheelbarrows full of leaves and raked pathways so they were clear to see and safe.

It was still very windy on Sunday so thank you so much to everyone who came along. It was such a beautiful day after all the rain and the vibrant, colourful leaves carpeted the woodland floor like a patchwork blanket. The sun twinkled and glittered on the bark and under foot like nature's very own disco.

It was great to see everyone and volunteers enjoyed a vegetarian pizza cooked on the woodfired pizza oven. There were also Halloween crafts for kids run by volunteers which entertained the adults too :)

Our Monthly Volunteer Mornings run on the last Sunday of the month from 10.00am-12.00pm.

Come along and give it a try. No experience needed. It's a great way to get out in the fresh air, make friends and support your local community woodland.

We also run many more events which you can find on our website here - www.foundrywood.co.uk

You can sign for the next Volunteer Morning session on Sunday 29th November by emailing [email protected]

Thanks again to everyone who volunteered at the woods on Sunday. You make such a difference.

The wood retains plenty of colour and the leaves are only just beginning to fall. In spite of the dry summer the hawthorns and rosehips have produced plenty of berries.
