Cubs this week completed their Road Safety badge.

After playing road sign bingo, they learned the green cross code rhyme and made up their own actions, as well as playing crossing corners and acted out being passengers on a bus - some very rowdy passengers who were put off the bus and some well behaved passengers who enjoyed their journey!

Next week, Cubs are at Seafield Beach for a litter pick - watch out for emails ⚜️

Squirrels started off their meeting last night playing a new game involving practising the things they do every week.

Peanut shouted out some 'tasks' and the Squirrels had to listen and choose the correct action.

They reflected on the adventures which they have had this term by drawing posters of their favourite parts, before Elizabeth read 'Puppy’s Big Rescue' to finish the night.

See you all next week at the Prom for our walk 😊🐿

Scouts continued working towards their knife, axe and saw licence last night.

After a chat from Gordon about knife law, the Scouts split into their three patrols to learn knife skills, first aid and axe skills. Great to see them developing their confidence in these areas. Well done Scouts - one step closer to your licence ⚜️

At Scouts last week, after a tense game of one on one hockey, they split into their Patrols to start designing their patrol book covers, while AJ took on the role of 'Badge Police' 😁

After checking everyone's uniforms against their records, many lists were written and sent home. Well done to those who had every single badge sewn on in the correct place - Gold Stars for you 🌟

At the end of the evening,
S and C's families were welcomed back to the Hall to see their investiture ceremony. Welcome to the best Scout Troop in the World 😆⚜️

On 28th May, Scouts were introduced to the concept of whittling. After speaking about knife safety, the triangle of death and how to hold and pass a knife, they then spent time attempting to whittle a spoon. It was quite frustrating but with some perseverance, they started to get the hang of it ⚜️

This week at Explorers, they continued to work on their Global Issues badge by focusing on issues which impact young people in Scotland vs USA.

They worked in two teams to come up with a list of issues for young people right now, then chose three as their focus. They spent time researching the cause of those issues and what is currently being done to support young people. There was plenty of interesting and mature discussion from the Explorers, before they watched a video from introducing their work. Both teams then wrote three questions which they would like to ask about the work done by Clued Up. Next week, they will record their questions and send them to Clued Up to answer.

We also welcomed A to Explorers and Nathan renewed his promise.
Bravo ⚜️

On 1st June, the Explorers were welcomed to 'The Game of Life'

Working in two teams, they had to choose a career card, monthly wage card and life goal (festival tickets anyone?) before completing five challenges which represented a month of life. After each challenge, they were presented with cards which either cost them money or awarded them money.

There was drama in group one when their laptop broke down two months in a row and John broke his glasses again! There was lots of hilarity during 'Side Hustle' Challenge as Tyler and Jamie attempted to sell AJ chilli ice cream (she was tempted...kind of), while Scott was pretty pre-occupied by the Happy Tokens (not a bad thing to focus on, mind you!)

Overall they proved they could sort of navigate real life 😁

At the end of the night, Tyler was invested into 115th Explorers and Erin, Jamie, Scott, John and Max renewed their promises ⚜️

Catching up with Explorers' activities over the past couple of weeks⚜️

On 25th May, they met outside Sainsbury's to continue work on their Chef and Money Skills badges. They were given £5 to spend on a meal to feed seven people. They chose pasta, sauce and even some veg!

After forgetting the garlic bread during the first trip, they quickly nipped back in and came in under budget by 68p

Once they had walked back to the Hall with their shopping, the Explorers set about cooking their feast. They definitely need more practice with timings but it was at least edible and filling. Well done Explorers 👏

Scouts were joined by Explorers (or were Explorers joined by Scouts?) for a parkour session with Mark from Access Parkour at The Pitt in Edinburgh on Saturday. This was definately not for the faint-hearted! Scouts have taken part in some adventurous activities over the past two years but seeing them dangling off poles a good few metres off the ground, made AJ close her eyes and hope for the best more than once 🙈

Thankfully, Mark was incredible and after teaching a number of basic Parkour moves, the group went on to play several games in an attempt to hone their skills. Leaders were very impressed that they managed to follow the three rules -
1) Listen to instructions
2) Don't kill yourself
3) Don't kill anyone else

Successful session all round 🤩 Well done team, we'll definitely be back for more ⚜️
