Badenoch Men's Shed

Badenoch Men's Shed For people in the Badenoch community who wish to support the creation of a Men’s Shed. Many thanks! https://checkout.justgiving.com/uk7csnzw8n

If you wish to make a donation, please follow this link to our Just Giving page. A men’s shed is a safe social space for all men with time on their hands, to come together to socialise and carry out a range of purposeful activities chosen by the shedders for themselves or for their local community. Sheds aim to provide positive views of aging and later life, tackle loneliness and isolation and hel

p older men to be as well as they can be. The Cairngorm National Park covers a significant area. Isolation and loneliness can be a significant issue. The nearest Man Shed is in Grantown on Spey, very much at the north end of the Park

Loneliness kills. It is a public health crisis. It is as dangerous to a person’s health as smoking 15 ci******es a day. It increases the risk of stress, anxiety and depression and doubles the risk of dementia. Loneliness can occur at different ages and stages; however, many of the triggers tend to congregate in later life due to life changes such as bereavement, retirement, moving to a new area, illness or children moving away from home.
100,000 older people in Scotland feel lonely all or most of the time. 200,000 will go half a week without a visit or call from anyone.

BMS were pleased to be asked to produce the baton for the Badenoch Baton Race. Many thanks to Brian and Yvonne Dziennik, John Moyce, Bob Kinnaird and Louise Betts for bringing the project to life.
The Badenoch Baton Race is an event aimed to improve access to physical activity across the schools in badenoch. The race was inspired by the Glasgow 2026 commonwealth games, and we wanted to draw recognition to this and allow our rural schools to be involved and feel like they are part of the games. The fusion gymnastics team (working in partnership with highlife highland) secured funding from ‘Moniack Mhor’ to develop inclusive physical activity, social connection, and better access across rural community’s which has allowed them to run the event. The event will finish with a display of local dance and gymnastics on 5th June where the local community are invited. Come along to see our young people’s talent and mark the end of the Badenoch Baton Race with the final mile being completed by Kingussie Gymnastics club after the schools have collectively ran the distance of Badenoch & Strathspey.
