Garden Club News

Our next meeting is on Wednesday 15th April at 7.30pm in the Lesser Hall of Newtonmore Village Hall. One of our members, Lynne Munro, works with Abernethy School and the children grow wonderful produce in their polytunnel so she will be talking about “Gardening with Children.” There will also be the Club seed potato to collect for the Potato in a Pot competition.

There are 2 events in May – our seed and plant sale on 20th May, and our annual coach outing on Friday 29th May.

The outing will be to Scone Palace Garden Fair and the transport will cost £20 per person. The entry to the fair can be booked online (£16 if over 65, £I8.50 if you are lucky enough to be younger!) You can pay at the gate but booking in advance avoids the long queue. You can read more at
https://www.scone-palace.co.uk/event/scone-palace-garden-fair
You can book your seat on the coach by bringing £20 on 15th April – it helps if we know numbers in advance and we have to pay for the coach in advance as well. We can arrange pickups at the local villages if you let us know.

The May plant sale relies on donations so pot up any self-seeded plants that you are digging up and bring along any surplus seedlings. What you have too much of may be just what someone else is looking for!

Scotlands National Garden Show, the Scone Palace Garden Fair will be the perfect day out for gardening enthusiasts and their families. Come and experience a line-up of top nurseries selling quality plants, gardening workshops, competitions, and more.

Post Show meeting and Lost Property

We had a good night sharing food and recipes - Courgette Soup, Broccoli and Potato salad and Tabbouleh - followed by our pot luck supper. The photos don't do justice to the spread of items.
There are a few items that were left behind after the August Show - a couple of bags, a camera case (for a Canon lens) and a white apron with Mamma Lucia printed on it, plus some big pots from the potato in a pot competition. If you recognise any of these let us know and they can be returned to their owner.
We also now have more Dobies catalogues and the code for a 50% discount on seeds so do get in touch if you would like one.

Next Meeting Wed 17 September

Our next meeting is on Wed 17 September at 7.30pm in St Bride’s Church Hall, Newtonmore. This meeting is all about food. There will be recipe demonstrations of cooking with garden produce, and then a chance to sample the dishes. We have a light supper afterwards and we hope most people will be able to bring along a plate of something tasty to share. It could be something you have grown in the garden/allotment or if this is not possible there is always the Co-op!

This is the post- show meeting and we would normally present the show trophies, but unfortunately the engraver can’t get them ready in time so we will present them at the October meeting instead.

As always, members have free entry but if you want to bring a friend, we welcome guests. Guests pay £2.50 which includes the refreshments.
I hope to see you there!
