A little late to share but...... We inherited our lovely Orchard when we took over the plot. Since then, every winter we have pruned and cared for the trees. We are unsure of the varieties but they are tasty and providers with a little a lot of apples.

With the support of Rosie from Pickering Road Community Orchard, brought was boundary blessing and light, we celebrated little Orchard with a wassail.

Wasil is a traditional English ceremony, which blesses the trees and encourages the good harvest.

If you would like to come and see our little Orchard, please get in touch for more information.

This week Geoff worked in the pouring down rain to piece back together our greenhouse, following gusty winds that had blown out numerous panels. We put string up in our polytunnel ready for a wide variety of tomatoes plants. We watered up and enjoyed refreshments ourselves too!

A nice bright morning on Tuesday made brighter by the company and orange drizzle cake made by a volunteer.

We tended to the seedlings and potted up some nasturtiums and ‘poached egg’ flowers that had self seeded in the poly tunnel and beds.

We weeded the flower beds to make space for our flowers to thrive this spring. The daffodil are out and the tulips are starting to emerge.

It’s a good time for sowing and some of our volunteers have kindly taken some seeds back at home.

An exciting time of change and possibility for the coming months.

Thanks everyone for your help ❤️

Today we planted brocoli (blue fin), beetroot (perfect 3, cylindra & golden eye), tomatoes (cherry), resown sunflowers as something had eaten them, transported shed, pollinated apricot tree and picked up remaining orchard cuttings. Hilary is going to sow spinach, cauliflower & spring onions from home. Plus cut flowers.

Today we planted out some of our broad beans (thank you Oldroyd's Corner Yorkshire CIC for the seeds!). The others where again eaten by a mysterious animal!! They have just nipped off the shoots but neither eaten them, it the bean. Any ideas who it might be?!?!

We have protected the ones we have planted with "mini cloches" (thanks Jenny and Geoff these are still going strong) and will direct sow some outside in the coming weeks.

If you would like to join us we meet Sundays and Tuesday. Send us a message for more information.

25th January: Preparing for the spring..

Our last sunday on the plot in January…
It’s been a long month but we are feeling hopeful and excited for the spring. We have been busy bees and a lot of prep is underway.

We have worked hard to prepare a base for a new shed on the plot (thank you to North Hull Area Committee for funding for this). The kids helped too.

We’ve also filled many wheelbarrows full of our new compost (donated by Wastewise) and spreading it on the plot beds to prepare the soil for growing later in the year.

Volunteers have been sowing some seeds in the poly tunnel today. We’ve seen the daffodil bulbs shooting up and noticed some new camomile plants that have self seeded on the plot.

And finally we’ve enjoyed a hot cuppa and some delicious lemon cake kindly baked by a volunteer!
