Keynsham Mencap We provide 9 weekly clubs, +activities, +day trips +holidays to our members: a vital social life. We use facilities at local schools and local venues.

At Keynsham and District Mencap Society we believe all children and adults with a learning disability should be able to access the same play, social and leisure activities as much as anyone. Our clubs offer our members the right level of support to do just that. We have only the highest aspirations for people with a learning disability. We organise activities, holidays and day trips that would nor

mally be inaccessible to many of those who attend. We provide specially adapted transport to and from venues for wheelchair users and those with mobility needs. We work with other local community groups as much as possible to provide the best possible service to our members.

👶🧒 For children aged 0–5

A relaxed, friendly group designed especially for children with disabilities, additional learning needs, or for families who feel their child would thrive in a calmer, smaller setting.

No diagnosis is needed — if you feel your child would benefit, you are warmly welcome.

Who is the group for?
This group is ideal for children who may:
- Find busy or noisy playgroups overwhelming
- Need a gentler pace or more support during play
- Have emerging developmental, social, or communication needs
- Benefit from a smaller, more predictable environment
- Are awaiting assessment or have no diagnosis at all

A massive thank you to everyone who came to Bingo & Boogie last night! 🕺

We are delighted to share that we raised just over £1,150 for our wonderful charity.

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported the evening. It was a fantastic night and wonderful to see so many people having fun while supporting a great cause.

A special thank you to:

🎤 Kristy, our brilliant bingo caller

💜 Hazel, Sarah and Gemma, our amazing volunteers who helped sign people in and sell raffle tickets

🏢 Riverside Inn, for generously allowing us to use their venue free of charge, and to all of the bar staff for their support throughout the evening

🎵 DJ Barry and his assistant Suzie for keeping the party going

🎁 Everyone who kindly donated raffle prizes, including Avon Valley Adventure Park, Congo Falls Adventure Golf, Bearhouse Alpacas, Avon Valley Railway, Ray from Arthur David, Food With Service, and members of the local community who donated bottles of bubbly and many other fantastic prizes.

💜 Volunteer Spotlight: Leanne 💜

Leanne is one of those people whose smile can brighten a room. A regular volunteer at Super Saturday Club and on our day trips, she brings warmth, kindness and positivity wherever she goes. Her friendly nature helps everyone feel welcome, and she’s always ready to get involved, lend a helping hand or share a laugh.

Whether she’s supporting activities at the club, encouraging members to join in, or helping make a day trip run smoothly, Leanne’s caring and cheerful approach shines through in everything she does. She has a wonderful way of making people feel comfortable, valued and included.

It’s often the little things that make the biggest difference – a smile, a kind word, a listening ear – and Leanne gives those things so generously. Her positivity helps create the welcoming atmosphere that makes our clubs and trips such special places to be.

💖 Volunteer Spotlight: Roger 💖

Roger’s volunteering journey started with his son, Maff.

Originally attending Club25 to support Maff on a 1:1 basis, Roger quickly discovered just how special the Mencap community is. Before long, he was enjoying it so much that he signed up as a volunteer – and we’ve been lucky to have him on the team ever since.

Now a regular volunteer at Club25, as well as on day trips and holidays, Roger is always ready to get stuck in and make a difference. Whether he’s supporting members to try something new, lending a helping hand, sharing a laugh or joining in with activities, he brings enthusiasm, positivity and a great sense of fun wherever he goes.

Roger is never one to shy away from a challenge. From abseiling down Keynsham Church to walking across hot coals, he’s thrown himself into fundraising and adventures with the same determination and commitment he brings to his volunteering.

What makes Roger so special is his willingness to say “yes” – whether that’s helping on a holiday, supporting a day trip or taking on a challenge that most of us would think twice about! His generosity, good humour and can-do attitude have made him a much-loved member of our volunteer team.

💖 Volunteer Spotlight: Christine 💖

If there’s fun to be had, chances are Christine is right in the middle of it!

A much loved volunteer at Club25, as well as on our day trips and holidays, Christine brings energy, laughter and a fantastic sense of humour wherever she goes. She’s never afraid to get involved and is often just as excited about the activities as our members are.

Whether she’s joining in with games, dancing, laughing until her sides hurt, or helping members make the most of every opportunity, Christine brings a sense of fun that is completely infectious. In many ways, she’s just a big kid at heart and that’s exactly why our members love spending time with her.

From weekly Club25 sessions to adventures on day trips and holidays, Christine gives her time so generously and helps make every experience that little bit brighter.

💖 Volunteer Spotlight: Barry 💖

Barry is a valued member of our adult clubs who also gives back to Keynsham Mencap by volunteering at Play & Shine and sharing his DJing talents at our events. His enthusiasm, commitment and willingness to help make him a fantastic part of our community.

At Play & Shine, Barry is always happy to get involved, helping to create a fun and welcoming environment for children and families. Whether he’s supporting activities, chatting with families or lending a helping hand where needed, Barry brings positivity and energy to every session.

Many of our members also know Barry as the man behind the music! His DJing helps bring our events to life, creating a lively atmosphere where everyone can have fun, dance and make special memories. Barry’s love of music and entertainment helps make our events even more enjoyable for members, families and volunteers alike.

💖 Volunteer Spotlight: Sophie 💖

Sophie is an incredible volunteer whose dedication and commitment make a huge difference across Keynsham Mencap. From stepping up as Deputy Leader for Go Explore to supporting Club 25, day trips and helping behind the scenes, Sophie is always willing to go the extra mile.

As Deputy Leader at Go Explore, Sophie has taken on additional responsibility with confidence and enthusiasm. She plays an important role in helping sessions run smoothly, supporting members and volunteers, and ensuring everyone has a positive experience.

Sophie is also a familiar and supportive presence at Club 25 and on trips, where she is always ready to help, encourage members and join in with activities. Her friendly and approachable nature helps create a welcoming environment where everyone feels included and supported.

Away from sessions, Sophie is just as dedicated. She regularly helps behind the scenes with important tasks such as cleaning and organising toys and equipment, ensuring everything is ready for members to enjoy. These contributions may happen out of the spotlight, but they are invaluable to the smooth running of our services.

Sophie’s reliability, hard work and willingness to help wherever needed make her an incredibly valued member of our volunteer team. Her commitment to supporting our members and helping Keynsham Mencap thrive is truly appreciated.

💖 Volunteer Spotlight: Suzie 💖

Suzie is a familiar face at many of our adult clubs, but she also generously gives her time to support our Play & Shine group. Her willingness to help and friendly personality make her a valued part of the Keynsham Mencap community.

At Play & Shine, Suzie is always happy to lend a hand. Whether she’s helping to make teas and coffees for parents and carers or getting involved with activities with the children, she is always ready to support wherever she can.

Suzie’s caring and helpful nature shines through in everything she does. She enjoys spending time with the children, joining in with games and activities, and helping to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for families attending the group.

As both a member and a volunteer, Suzie demonstrates the importance of giving back and supporting others. Her enthusiasm, kindness and commitment make a real difference to Play & Shine, and her contributions are greatly appreciated by families, members and volunteers alike.

Tania is a treasured volunteer at Go Explore whose sweet nature and cheerful personality brighten every session. She has a genuine kindness that shines through in all her interactions, helping members feel welcomed, supported and valued from the moment they arrive.

Always full of smiles and positivity, Tania brings a calm and caring presence to the group. She enjoys spending time with members, listening to their stories, celebrating their achievements and encouraging them to get involved in activities and try new experiences.

When asked what volunteering means to her, Tania said:

“Volunteering with Mencap gives me purpose, confidence, and the chance to make a difference.”

We think this perfectly reflects the positivity and dedication that Tania brings to Go Explore. Her support means so much to our members, and we are incredibly grateful to have her as part of the Keynsham Mencap family.
