Fynn and Billy from the John McCann Fishing Foundation did really well today during their lesson at Haddockston Water this morning. The boys worked hard on a few methods with offers coming frequently to beetles, suspender buzzers and Dynamite Harry. The highlight of the session was a magnificent 6/7lbs rainbow caught by Fynn on a white suspender minkie. He did really well as this fish tore loads of line from the reel. A personal best for sure.

Great fishing at Haddockston Water this morning for the boys from the John McCann Fishing Foundation. A light easterly didn't put the fish off and the boys enjoyed lots of sport. The front, bottom left and far left bank had lots of eager fish. Once again their behaviour and effort was exemplary. The boys were presented with fish catching flies donated by Friends of the Foundation Andrew Caitens and David Fisher

That was a great wee day teaching four lads from the John McCann Fishing Foundation at Haddockston Water. Jason was on great form casting great distances with complete control , Cameron caught the first of the day, Billy picked up the buzzer tactics easily and Mason cast further than he has in the past. Buzzers, squirmies and an Ally McCoist fished deep all did well. The manners, behaviour and effort was exemplary once again. The boys were presented with vices from David Fullerton and fantastic flies from Andrew Caitens .

I got the John McCann Fishing Foundation off and running for another season at Haddockston Water this season this fine morning. Jack and Dirk did brilliantly catching nine cracking fish. We worked on casting back into the wind and casting off the left shoulder. The effort level from both boys was first class. The fish went like trains today. Still a bit nippy but a few fish were up taking buzzers

My friend Steven Reid was good enough to give me a couple of top quality reels and lines at the Glasgow Angling Centre Open Weekend . Young Jack Loughlin was gifted one as he is part of the John McCann Fishing Foundation and the other one was sold as part of our Foundation Fundraiser. Jack was delighted with the gift. It looks as though for once the weather is set fair for our Fundraiser on Sunday. Fingers crossed.

Well done to young Stephen Kincaid this afternoon. During his John McCann Fishing Foundation lesson his casting was flawless, his effort was excellent and his manners were exemplary. He caught and hit fish on a variety of flies but a yellow hopper from Friend of the Foundation Scott Young was best. Stephen was presented with a couple of boxes of spinners and rapalas donated by Friend of the Foundation Wully Kirk . Only a week left before our Foundation Fundraiser so if you are still to pay for sponsoring a peg at £20 or wish to do so please get in touch. A couple of items donated by Friend of the Foundation Graham Best have been sold.
Happy days

Young Szandor christened his new fly rod and then some during his John McCann Fishing Foundation lesson today at Haddockston Water. The gift was presented to him last week by Graham Best. Fish were moving continuously today with olives and buzzers coming off regularly. A flat daddy had the fish going bonkers even in the flat calm throughout. As expected his effort and manners were exemplary. There are still a few pegs left if you would like to sponsor one for £20 please get in touch prior to our Fundraiser on October 12th.

The John McCann Fishing Foundation has a real friend in Graham Best. Over the years he has provided the children with numerous quality items of Fishing tackle from rods through to flies. This year he made up a full kit to be given to the Most Deserving Young Angler in the Foundation. The clear winner was Young Szandor. Always on time, always super keen, always appreciative and always gives everything during each of his free lessons with free permits. Today I went over to Haddockston Water to meet Graham and to watch him pass over the kit which included, brand new rod, reel, line, bag, cap, jacket, gloves, bag, leader, forceps, floatant, ,net, net pole, flybox and flies. Szandor was really appreciative of this fantastic gift. Hopefully I will get him out to christen it soon. Our annual Fundraiser is coming up soon. If you want to sponsor a peg for £20 please let me know. Colin Irvine told me that there are just a couple of spaces left to fish on the day so contact him quickly to secure your place. Raffle prizes are also welcome and Graham also dropped off some for us today as well as some home made wooden flytying items and flies amongst other things
