Ayrshire Touring Motorcycle Club

Not just a club, but your next great adventure. We were founded in 1990 and to this day we still meet up at 7.30pm every first and third Wednesday of the month.

From the winding roads of the Ayrshire coast to the peaks of the Alps, we’re a community of riders dedicated to the open road. When a fifth Wednesday occurs, we use one day or night from this week as a social event. We use Dreghorn Community Centre near Irvine, as our venue and have a range of members including learners, advanced riders, sports and cruisers, females and non-riders with an interest in and the sport. We currently have over 30 members.

On Sunday we had another group of warriors heading for a run out which actually ended up being a Legionnaires run with our own Taff Bee, Gecko, Brian and Gordon from Dumfries District. Taff picked them up in Sanquhar, then they headed off for a run up the Mennock Pass. From the ride out it was clear there was still loads of repairs needed.
Great time for a coffee at the Leadhills museum, then cross country to Elvanfoot, and down the Dalveen Pass then heading to Thornhill.
It would be a shame not to stop for ice cream (thanks Brian) then again cross country to Dalmellington which was a challenge in itself with loose gravel everywhere. Its at this point i had to edit the f'ing and jeffing after all this is a family show.
Stopped at Dalmellington, said farewell to Brian and Gordon, then Gecko and Taff rode home via Patna. Great afternoon guys, thanks..

And here we are on a Sunday evening. So what did we do today? Early start and 4 of our troupe started from a car forecourt and a nice run down the Ayrshire coast to catch the ferry across to Dunoon. All aboard and tickets taken and the day looks good already. Being on a motorbike loses you from the worries you have and for that, I love it. From Dunoon heading to Portavadie and a stop at Loch Ruel Viewpoint then onwards. Today saw a small issue with one of our riders but in the end everything was ok. Bits unscrewed and removed and back on the road again.......sounds like a song coming on there. Off again with a tea stop at Tighnabruaich Hotel. The hotel hosted a weekend event with different motorcycle clubs which looked and sounded like it went well and everyone had a fantastic event.
Stands up and off to Portavadie Marina to see what it's all about. Nice place........wee bit too posh for my roughness. Some amazing back roads today with a lot of singe track roads and twists and bends. On the A886 Cairnbow and the clouds released a whole lot of rain and as we just passed The Bay Cottage Tearoom we decided your it so returned for some lunch. Decisions, decisions, what to have. I think I have said this in my past mention. Bacon rolls just do it for me. Decision made. Soup and toasty for 1, pennine for another and anyone know what the other one got?
Now as I said 4 went out but on this trip 5 came back. Enter stage left from Debbie Fireblade. Out on her own and doing the same as us and sheltering from the weather and heading back in the same direction, so it would be a shame not to invite her to come along on our adventure. Oh yea adventure paused to check a slow puncture. Thanks to the Tearoom for supply of puncture checking water. No sign so tyre inflated and off we go. Old military Road to the Rest and be Thankfull and another tyre check. More air and helmet screen spray and found the leak. First time plug user and screwed in and looks like it's holding. No leaks, get home OK. Photo opportunity and heading back homewards but not before more tea. McDonald's is always a great place for that. Lots of laughter and great introductions to everyone and a thank you to Debbie Fireblade for joining us today. It is always a pleasure to ride with other willing riders so hopefully stay in touch if you fancy other runs just to get you out. Final drive home and dinner. Today was another great day for being out and about on 2 wheels. Great runs with great people.

Well good morning happy people. As the weather had decided to stay dry, the KTM was again brought out for my commute to work yesterday, and what bike journey wouldn't be complete without a couple of rolls and bacon and a big Red Bull. (Please be aware that other fillings and drinks are available).

That feeling when your on the bike and the sun is through the clouds and your happy, your free and your living your best life, then getting to work thinking........do I have time to go round the block again?

8hrs before you can get back on the bike to take you back home, we'll almost straight home. Road ahead seemed to be filled with red lights, and you and I know as a biker, you make that split second decision to filter through or take that road off to the left at Midgavin Farm and along the upper hill to the Lochwinnoch roundabout..........decision make........left it is. We find roads we haven't traveled in years and think back to when we were last was up this way. Traffic now behind me and off for a catch up with a good friend who is recovering and is getting better every day. Looking great mate. Sometimes you just have to stop and check in with people for you and them to feel that little bit better about yourselves, so I encourage you to reach out and just spare the time to talk and listen.

Final drive to home and good music before the KTM goes back into the bunker to then come back out for this Sunday's run (previously advised). So it's now Saturday and I say to you all, have a fantastic weekend and if you think about someone you haven't chatted to for ages reach out and say hi. Oh and let's bring waving and nodding back because I appreciate every one of you and thats my way of saying it to you and it makes me feel good you showing me that love and yes, I know its not for everyone and I get that before everyone gets on to me. I get were all different but we all share that being on a bike togetherness. From me..........take care of each other x

As a small motorcycle club we have always been wary of advertising where were going till after we have been there and I'm sure some of our people now think we should be telling people in advance so they know where were going just incase they too are in the area and fancied tagging along for a bit or even meeting for a well deserved hot beverage and a slice of cake(other items also available). So without further ado I'm happy to share where were off to this weekend.

Big Run, Big Run which isn’t to be confused with big shoe, big shoe. This month’s big run is happening this Sunday 23rd August and not 25th as per last club internal minutes. (I really need to stop and read the notes before I finalise them). This month’s run is an early start at 0900hrs leaving from Bridgend Garage, Kilwinning KA13 7JB, opposite the Esso fuel station on the B778. This will be heading down towards Largs then catching the ferry to Dunoon and maybe some of us will call into the wee shop that you get the ferry tickets from to stock up. From Dunoon we will head to Portavadie via Tighnabruaich, Portavadie to Rest And Be Thankful via Otter Ferry and Lanlingerteen and home via Arrochar, Faslane and Helensburgh( this was a copy and paste so don't shoot the messages for spelling mistakes) making sure there is always time for tea or coffee breaks. This is an all-day event so please come with an open mind and good humour and who knows what fun can be had on the way but the weather looks OK and were a pleasant group of people.......well I can only speak for myself.

What else would you do on an evening where an Eclipse is due than to head for chips and then down to Portencross to sit in the quietness while trying to see everything get dark. So, get there and someone must have told everyone that we were coming cause is was jam packed and not as quiet as I thought but hay ho never shy of making new friends. 5 turned up and waited.......and waited. Overcast then rain and nothing to see here.

Not to worry it's always good to get out.

Words from our Secretary.

As a sort of new driver (3 years), I have found that joining a bike club has done many things for me. I have never been shy or retired and as soon as I joined I was welcomed and, as time went on, I made some amazing friends and have traveled all over the country with many more journeys to come but it has definitely made a difference and given me the experience to ride in groups as well as going out on my own. Finding a good club is paramount for having a laugh and talking to others so has been a great benefit for making new friends and experiences. New riders, we welcome you and free membership to recently passed drivers.

The day started normal with how much fuel do I have and do I really have enough time to throw a McDonald's breakfast down my neck before heading off? So we had 2 wary wanderers turn up for a run out today and deciding if we did our own thing or join MCS Motorcycles staff day run. Now having done a few of them before, we opted to rock our own boat, and today would see us along the A737, off for Erskine Bridge and all the way through to Helensburgh, Faslane and Arrocher. This then had us off to Inveraray for refreshment and a bathrooms break and leg stretch. All done and off again this time turning right for Dunoon. Over to ferry port and a quick crossing and heading to Largs for a cone before heading home. Good company and great roads.

The riders left McDs Killie at 9am heading for Anstruther, it was going you be a long day.
Quick stop at Harthill services, for Tea and Coffee, then onward, over the Queen Elizabeth Bridge and into Dalgety Bay, for some photos of the bridges at queensferry, onward we went to Kirkcaldy beach, following the coast road a quick rest and some more photos, then of to Anstruther for lunch, and a walk about.
Then off to the old course St Andrews, the place was mobbed, photo opportunity with the course in the background.
Off again to Callander via Cuper, to refuel and take on drinks, homeward bound we went, but not before going over Dukes pass to Aberfoyle and onward to the watering hole in Balloch, yes, McDs for tea and coffee, the last one of the day, then back into the shire and home safe and sound.
The scenery was great, the weather was brilliant and the company was joyous.
264 miles completed and 10.5 hrs out.

Last week we decided to take our 3rd weekly meeting to Gro in Irvine so we could discuss anything other than motorbike stuff but we couldn't even do that and started looking at where some of our tours would like to take us next year. Good chat, good people, good food and lots of laughter.
