Let the library come to you…

If health or mobility problems are preventing you or someone you know from visiting a library branch or mobile library, our Home Library Service volunteers are here to help!

Let us know your favourite authors, genres, or topics, and our volunteers will select books for you and place the orders through the library. They’ll collect the books, deliver them to your home, and return any you’ve finished.

This service is completely free - get in touch with your local library to find out more and sign up!

Take care, encourage everyone to drink more and eat high water foods like jelly, ice lollies and fruits such as Melon.

An amber heat health alert is in place for the East of England from 9am tomorrow (11 August) to 9pm on Friday 14 August.

We're heading towards another week of hot weather in the UK from 9th to 16th August, so it's important to make sure you and the older people in your life are prepared.

As we age, our bodies find it harder to adapt to more extreme temperatures, and hot weather can make some health conditions worse. We can all help keep older people safe this summer by checking in on relatives, friends, and neighbours, and offering to pick up any medication or shopping.

Rushmere Memory Cafe

We had a busy time this morning making collages, we cut, glued, rearranged and made cards and pictures.

We celebrated a birthday with cup cakes.

We all decided that although it was very hot, we could all manage some chair dancing.

We asked all our attendees at our memory cafes over the last year, to draw round their hands and decorate however they wanted 😍

Unity Memory Cafe

We started our morning colouring in butterflies and talking about how many we had seen in our gardens.

We played three games of card bingo, we changed how we have previously played it and are now enjoying it more.

We did some dancing, taking it in turn to copy someone’s moves, we passed Kat around, we each had a turn to do some dance moves with her. We all had a homemade shaker to dance some samba.

We had pizza, garlic bread, coleslaw, potato salad and crisps for our lunch.

Big Butterfly Count 2026
We gave out butterfly sheets for attendees to count butterflies, we spoke about the different kinds we had all seen lately.

We had pictures that we coloured and added tissue paper to, to make them look 3D.

We enjoyed lemon cake with our cuppas while playing card bingo, being our first time, we gave pros and cons to the game to make it better for next time.
