The PHEC is only one of two courses approved by the Sports Grounds Safety Authority as meeting its Green Guide recommendations for Crowd Practitioners. The Refresher PHEC is required to maintain the validity of the PHEC certification beyond three years after completing the full PHEC course.

Research and education that helps advance pre-hospital care through evidence, innovation and shared learning are really important to us!

Last week, we were delighted to host an online workshop with Dr Stacey Webster on 'Understanding Fatal Knife Injuries in Young People'. Drawing on unique national mortality data, the session explored the circumstances, injuries and timelines surrounding every young person who died following knife crime in England between 2019 and 2024, examining key background factors, mechanisms of death and when deaths occur.

The workshop recording will shortly be available free of charge to all BASICS members via the members' area, alongside our growing library of recorded educational workshops and resources.

Our most advanced training programme, the Immediate Care Course (ICC), is underway this week in Essex.

Covering adult and paediatric pre-hospital emergency care, as well as the Pre-Hospital Emergency Anaesthesia (PHEA) Assist role, the ICC is an immersive, highly practical course designed to prepare clinicians for the realities of working in challenging pre-hospital environments.

This week, amongst other things, delegates have been taking part in realistic road traffic collision (RTC) scenarios alongside local fire crews, putting their skills to the test in true-to-life situations. Thank you to Essex County Fire and Rescue Service for taking part in these joint learning exercises.

Research, innovation and real-world impact were on full display at The Pre-Hospital Care Conference 2026.

We're pleased to showcase two more posters from this year's poster competition, demonstrating the great work being undertaken across the pre-hospital care community. The poster competition complemented a programme packed with expert plenary sessions, practical demonstrations and interactive workshops, helping to combine educational depth and practical application.

The standard of posters displayed throughout the conference was excellent. We were particularly pleased to see so many students contributing high-quality research, helping to shape the future of pre-hospital care.

📅 Looking ahead, we're excited to welcome delegates to our 50th Anniversary Conference in York on 7-8 October 2027, where the poster and lightning presentation competitions will return. Keep an eye out in the new year for details of the abstract submission process.

The Pre-Hospital Emergency Care (PHEC) Course is a highly practical, three-day course designed for healthcare professionals to enhance their assessment, decision-making and management of acutely ill or injured patients in the pre-hospital environment. It is taught at Skills for Health Level 6, endorsed by RCSEd , and is one of only two courses approved by the Sports Grounds Safety Authority as meeting the Green Guide recommendation for Crowd Practitioners.
