Update !

We are preparing a grant application to the Scottish Land Fund (SLF) for money to buy The Wells. This is not a simple thing to do: quite rightly, they need to be convinced that we have a viable plan for the building and that it's financially sustainable, so the forms require a lot of detail. We had a site visit from Ailsa Murphy of the SLF at the beginning of June along with Ruth Evans from the Community Ownership Support Service. It was a pleasure to show them round The Wells and discuss our plans.

We are now inviting people to become members of the St Ronan's Wells Support Group SCIO (Charity). Forms have been filled in during a drop-in session a the Innerleithen Co-op and we currently have 224 applications for membership. These will be processed over the next two weeks. You can collect a paper copy at The Allotment

We would appreciate feedback from the community via our Community Feedback form
The form is NOW live and available on our website https://wellssupportgroup.org/community-feedback-form/

We need a business plan to prove that our ideas are financially viable, and we are putting the finishing touches to it now. Jason Dyer who has a great history of working with groups like ours is leading this funded by our grant from the Architectural Heritage Fund.

Plans are afoot for a float in the Games Week Parade. Unmissable - be there!

And the gardens are still being cared for by volunteers. Come and pay a visit, they are looking beautiful

The St Ronan’s Wells Support Group has plans to take The Wells into community ownership and run it for the community. You can find our vision on the web at https://wellssupportgroup.org.

Shakespeare drinking the waters at The Wells?!

Here’s a letter from the 7th Earl of Traquair in October 1826 ... having fun with the geography..

… It was from that forest of splendid pines that Shakespeare when he was drinking the waters at Innerleithen and composing his play of Mcbeath has in the scene of Macduff erroneously called Birnam wood near Dunsinane; instead of the Caddon Bank at the foot of the Leithen……..

This Letter is displayed courtesy of the Traquair House Charitable Trust and by the generosity of Catherine Maxwell Stuart and the assistance of Margeret Fox , Traquair archivist.

Another step forwards as our Stage 1 application to the Scottish Land Fund has now been submitted.
The Scottish Land Fund (SLF) was founded in 2000, as a part of land reform in Scotland and they are the principal funder of Community Asset Transfers in Scotland. Acceptance at stage 1 of the process is a prerequesite to being able to apply for funds at stage 2 of the process. Huge thanks to Ailsa Murphy from SLF for her help with this.
