Can you help? If you are looking for a new challenge, we've just the role for you!

The Ingleborough District Explorer Team’s initiative to introduce a Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme for older Scouts and Explorers is a fantastic move to promote personal development and employability skills. To successfully implement this program, appointing a dedicated scheme manager is essential; this individual will collaborate with Scout leaders and a Scout assessor to provide training, oversee activities and ensure the smooth running of the scheme.

Covering Volunteering, Physical, Skills, and Expedition sections, the scheme will help young people develop resilience, teamwork and problem-solving abilities - key skills for their future education and careers - while also enriching their university applications and CVs, making participation highly valuable.

Can you help? You don’t have to be a member of Scouts at the moment, it may be you have just retired and have the time to manage this project or possibly you are interested in sports, community impact or outdoor pursuits. If you can help, please contact us via the contact page on the District website https://ingleboroughscouts.org.uk/contact-us/

Tarps and Teamwork!

1st Castleberg Scout Group - Settle recently had fun outdoors building shelters from branches and tarps. What a great way to foster teamwork, creativity and survival skills, while also having fun in nature.

Brewing hot drinks made the experience even more rewarding and memorable.

Explorers Light Fires on Water!

Most of the groups created a raft to float a smaller element of combustible material, such as dry leaves and twigs, and then lit their creation with a flint and steel. The task was completed with varying degrees of success but teamwork, ingenuity and determination won the day!

The next week, shelter building was their challenge, and their success was followed by two investitures of new members.

Well done to Cathy and Georgia Tazzyman who celebrated success after they crossed the finishing line having completing the challenging AJ Bell Great Manchester Half Marathon Run in 2 hours 34 minutes.

Their aim was to raise funds to enable Ingleborough Scout teams to create welcoming spaces where young people can grow in confidence, gain skills for life and feel safe being themselves.

To date, their efforts have raised £1,020 in donations but gifts can still be contributed at https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/miles-for-ingleborough-scouts

Please support Ingleton Scouts by donating jumble, cakes, tombola and raffle prizes, and by visiting the Community Centre to grab a bargain on the day.

Any help to set up and run the stalls would also be greatly appreciated.

Well done Ingleton Scouts and thank you to all the supporters who helped to raise £516 towards a new boiler and exciting opportunities for young people.

Ingleborough Scouts celebrated St George’s Day with archery, tomahawk throwing, orienteering, climbing, abseiling and zip wire adventures for the older sections. Squirrels and Beavers enjoyed an Easter egg game, Scavenger Hunt, Egg Rolling, the Story of St George and a splendid Teddy Bear’s Picnic. The activities culminated in the Renewal of Promises, several adults received Long and Good Service Awards and everyone took part in the singing of campfire songs.
The event was a highly successful and memorable celebration of fun, adventure and community, bringing together members, young and old, from across the District. More photos of the day can be viewed at https://ingleboroughscouts.org.uk/gallery/ -georges-day-2026

To tick off badgework, Settle Scouts made fat balls for their feathered friends at a recent troop meeting and two lads told their friends about War Hammer. This creative hobby involves collecting miniatures, then using them to play strategic table top war games. It’s good to see two totally different activities fostering interests and environmental awareness among the Scouts.
