Woodgreen Pets Charity

Woodgreen Pets Charity Keeping pets and their people together – this is how we rescue. Woodgreen is dedicated to helping pets and their people every step of the way.

We exist to ensure that every pet can have a healthy and happy home, and for every owner to get the practical, hands-on support they need to make this possible. We want all pets to live happy, fulfilling lives, and we do everything we can to make that a reality. Any pet that comes to our Centre is given specialist care which meets their individual needs. And when they’re ready, we find them the pe

rfect match – their second chance at happiness. As well as finding loving homes for vulnerable pets, we also provide a number of vital services to support humans, so that they can be the best pet owners they can be. This includes expert advice on the phone and online, as well as workshops, classes and community support. As seen on Channel 4’s ‘The Dog House’, Woodgreen’s Centre is based in Godmanchester, Cambridgeshire, where we care for dogs, cats, and small animals. Everything we do is funded through our generous supporters – we receive no government funding.

Does your dog struggle when left home alone? 🐶

Separation anxiety can be distressing for dogs and their owners. Signs can include barking, whining, pacing, destructive behaviour or toileting indoors when left alone.

If your dog finds being alone difficult, try:

🐾 Building up time apart gradually

🐾 Giving them a safe, comfortable place to relax

🐾 Leaving them with an enrichment toy or activity (such as a stuffed Kong or LickiMat)

🐾 Avoiding making arrivals and departures a big event

If you and your dog are struggling, you're not alone. Get in touch with our Pet helpline for support and advice from our expert team.

When Patricia’s health began to decline, caring for her beloved dog, Mitzy, became a challenge. Living in a rural area with no family nearby, and unable to drive, Patricia struggled to get Mitzy to the vet. That’s when her carer reached out to our Community team for help.

Serena visited Patricia and Mitzy at home, and it was clear they had a very special bond. Mitzy was the reason Patricia got out of bed each morning.

She noticed that Mitzy needed urgent dental care and grooming, so she arranged for her to be seen and treated by our team. We removed Mitzy’s teeth to ease her pain and, once she had recovered from surgery, gave her a lovely groom too.

Today, Mitzy is enjoying life with a fresh groom and a pain-free mouth. Most importantly, she’s still right where she belongs – by Patricia’s side. Serena continues to visit regularly, providing ongoing support, advice and health checks for Mitzy. 💚

Sometimes, rescue means providing the right support at the right time, helping pets and their people stay together when they need each other most.

New address? New phone number? New email address? 🐶

As part of National Microchipping Month, it's worth taking a moment to check that the details linked to your dog's microchip are up to date.

A microchip is one of the best ways to help a lost dog find their way home, but only if the information it links to is correct.

Remember, it's your responsibility to keep your contact details up to date on your dog's microchip database.

If your cat went missing, would their microchip lead them back to you? 🐱

Microchipping gives lost cats the best chance of being reunited with their owners. But it's not just about having a chip – it's your responsibility to keep the details linked to it up to date too.

Moved house? Changed your phone number? Heading away and leaving your cat with someone else? Make sure the contact details linked to your cat's microchip are updated and include as many ways to reach you as possible.

It's also a good idea to ask your vet to check your cat's microchip at their next appointment, as chips can occasionally move over time.

Whether your cat spends their days exploring outdoors or snoozing on the sofa, our latest advice article covers everything you need to know about cat microchipping.

Sometimes, people don’t need to give up their pet. They just need support a little earlier 💚

At Woodgreen, we offer practical support to help keep pets and their people together wherever possible – from behaviour advice and vet support, to workshops, guidance and help accessing pet food banks.

Because rescue isn’t only about finding new homes. It’s also about providing the right support at the right time – before someone reaches crisis point. Keeping pets in the homes they know, with the people who love them.

Think you know everything about pet microchips? 🤔
As part of National Microchipping Month, we’re busting some of the most common myths we hear about microchipping cats and dogs.

One thing many pet owners don’t realise? It’s your responsibility to keep the details linked to your pet’s microchip up to date. A microchip can only help reunite a lost pet with their owner if the contact information is correct.

This National Microchipping Month, take a minute to check your pet’s details are up to date. It could make all the difference if they ever go missing.

Grass seed season is here. 🌾

They might be small, but grass seeds can cause big problems for dogs. During walks, they can become trapped in paws, ears, eyes and coats, leading to pain and infection if left untreated.

After walks, especially through long grass, take a moment to check your dog's paws:

🐾 Look between their toes and pads
🐾 Check for redness or swelling
🐾 Keep an eye out for excessive licking or chewing
🐾 Feel for any seeds caught in the fur

Think your dog has picked up a grass seed?

🌾 Try to keep them calm and stop them licking the area
🌾 If it's easy to see and remove, carefully do so
🌾 If you're unsure, or you notice pain, swelling or signs of infection, contact your vet as soon as possible.

Dolly found herself at Woodgreen when her owner became overwhelmed by the number of pets in their home. Our Community team stepped in to help make things more manageable. 💚

Now, Dolly is looking for a fresh start.

Like her namesake, Dolly is a true star once she feels comfortable. Beneath that cautious exterior is a sweet, loving girl who just wants someone to take things at her own pace, show her she's safe... and always love her.

Now ready for a quieter life, Dolly is looking for a calm, caring home where she can finally relax, be pampered, and soak up all the love for herself.
