British Metals Recycling Association The British Metals Recycling Association (BMRA) is the trade association representing the £7 billion UK metal recycling sector.

The BMRA promotes the interests of member companies and the metals recycling sector in the UK. BMRA’s 300 members trade and process steel, aluminium, copper and most other ferrous and non ferrous metals, and recycle a wide range of related products, such as end of life vehicles, packaging, batteries, domestic appliances, building materials and electronic goods. Together they process over 13 millio

n tonnes - over 95% of the metallic scrap in the UK - every year; and export some 60% of their output to companies throughout the world. Membership is open to UK metals recycling companies of good standing that have been in business for at least two years. There are also associate membership categories for International and Service members.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is BMRA's highest individual honour, recognising a person whose sustained contribution, dedication and influence have helped shape the metals recycling industry.

Over many years, the recipient will have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the sector, whether through business leadership, industry representation, innovation, mentorship or service, leaving a lasting legacy that has benefited colleagues, businesses and the wider industry.

The recipient is the award is selected by the BMRA Board.

The BMRA Annual Dinner is taking place on Friday 13 November and booking is open!

Booking forms have been sent via post and email, and BMRA members can login to the members' area of the website to download the forms in the bulletins section.

Don't forget there are a host sponsorship opportunities and we are taking raffle prize donations in aid of 2026's President's charity, Children with Cancer UK.

The UK Metals Council State of the UK Metals Industry Survey 2026/27 closes on 5 September.

The UK metals sector continues to face significant challenges and opportunities, from energy costs and skills shortages to international competition, sustainability and the evolving regulatory landscape.

To ensure the industry's voice is heard, we are inviting businesses from across the UK metals supply chain to take part in the UK Metals Council State of the UK Metals Industry Survey 2026/27.

The survey findings will provide valuable insight into the current health of the sector and will form the basis of the UK Metals Council's annual industry report, which will be launched at UK Metals Expo on 4 November 2026.

Your input is essential. The stronger the response, the stronger the evidence we can provide to government, policymakers and stakeholders on behalf of the industry.

When businesses review their energy costs, the first thing they tend to look at is the unit rate.

But focusing on pence per kWh alone can mean overlooking another significant part of the bill.

For energy-intensive businesses, including those operating across the metals recycling sector, these fixed daily costs can quickly add up to thousands of pounds each year, and in some cases, there may be opportunities to reduce them.
