We're miles from the coast. Yet our litter isn't.

The Great Ouse carries it straight to the Wash.

As it's Great British Beach Clean week, we thought we'd remind you of the free kit loan: https://www.huntingdonshire.gov.uk/bins-waste/litter-and-fly-tipping/community-litter-picks/

Many thanks to the volunteers (both regular and new participants) who helped with today's litter pick.
We sometimes come across larger items, such as an ironing board found today, which will not fit in our bags! These should be reported as fly-tipping (see link in comments)

Our next monthly litter pick takes place on Sunday 6th September. As well as along the riverside park we also spread out to cover nearby parts of town. Litter pickers and bags provided.

Keeping Huntingdonshire clean and litter free costs nearly £1 million every year.

If you are caught littering you may be issued with a fixed penalty notice (FPN) of £150. Failure to pay an FPN could lead to you being prosecuted and ordered to pay the penalty, plus a fine of up to £2,500 and legal costs.

Its great to see young people spending some of their summer holiday litter picking in their local area. (Photo taken by their Dad going round with them)
If only there were more of them!

Thanks to today's volunteers.
Not only did we remove unsightly litter from parts of Huntingdon, we also helped reduce the risks of fires starting in vegetation by removing discarded glass bottles.
