"From the ashes rose the phoenix"..Although hedge laying is probably the best way to rejuvenate hedges ,if they are older (too big to lay effectively ) then dead hedging is a good alternative and if a double row is cut like this it acts as a support for the 'dead ' hedge cuttings in the space between.and is still an important wildlife habitat corridor and barrier plus no fuel used for chipping and no bonfire CO2 dispersal.... Stakes cut from the existing hedge can be pointed and used to strengthen the gaps (this one is still in the making ) ..💚

Happy new year to all of you .......It's that time of year again.gaurds that have been on for four years are coming off and being re used for the rest of their duration on new plants (about another 5 years before they degrade ) This keeps the cost (of new gaurds ) down and gives the established plants a chance to' feather' out at the base .

This photo shows the result of a trial we carried out with elm suckers from what were at the time (about 10 years ago) mature trees resistant to Dutch elm disease .This clone still shows resistance alongside a susceptible one .We trialled around 20 clones and only this one showed real resistance ...

A question for all you very knowledgeable bird friends .Can you tell me why my sparrows love suet pellets (with added mealworms ) And my friend in Suffolk has sparrows she feeds daily that won't look at them ?

we took cuttings of Elms resistant to dutch Elm disease about 10 years ago i think we can say this clone has resistance 💚

may look bland now but i like to get the hardy Annual plots going in the Autumn .I think it makes for stronger plants and a better show in early summer .feeling confident i can prove my point next year Watch this space 👀
