Horncastle Air Cadets Public Page 1265 (Horncastle) Squadron RAF Air Cadets Are you up for fun, adventure, incredible experiences and making new friends? Do you want real flight experience?

Are you looking for something to give you the edge in life? Then welcome to the Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAFAC). Better known as the 'Air Cadets', we’re a UK-wide cadet force with more than 40,000 members aged between 12 and 20 years. We're sponsored by the Royal Air Force and can give you hands-on experience of activities and courses that will challenge and develop your skills to help you succ

eed in whatever you want to do. No problem. How about heading out on adventurous training and camps, sometimes overseas? Normal for cadets. Competitive sports, drill, shooting, music, abseiling, engineering projects? Our list of activities is long, varied and open to all cadets. Yes it's a challenge, but that's what life's all about. Let's face it - where else would you be given the opportunity to fly solo in a glider or powered aircraft when you're 17? Whatever you do with your life, at the end of your time as a cadet you'll be self-motivated, confident and ready for anything. We parade two nights a week, Tuesday and Thursday, 18:45 to 21:30. We run one joining intake a year starting in September and hold an open night in July to show prospective members what the organisation is all about. Recently on a cold dark morning in February a group of Horncastle Air Cadets and their staff, along with invited cadets from neighbouring squadrons, left Horncastle at 5am to visit the Williams F1 team at their Headquarters near Oxford.

By 9am we had arrived and were invited into their corporate hosting facility. After a quick introduction, the cadets were taken through to a large auditorium where they were given their task for the day. Design a nose cone which will protect the driver in the event of am accident.

Working in small teams of five, the cadets had to design their nose cone, whilst taking into consideration time and costs. Once their design was built they had to present to the audience what they had built. Their designs were then tested on a crash test rig. The team with the most successful design won a prize.

After lunch, the cadets and staff were given a guided tour around the Williams F1 museum where genuine race cars from their almost 50 years history are on display.

Next came the highlight for many of the visitors, a chance to drive and race in Williams’ very own Esport Lounge. The cadets had the chance to race against each other on such iconic tracks as Silverstone and Monico. The overall winner collected a signed Williams F1 poster. Before departing for home, each cadet received some unique gifts to remember their visit. Tired but happy, we all arrived back in Horncastle at 7:30pm.

Horncastle Air Cadets Civilian Committee

WE NEED YOUR HELP.

Looking for something new in the New Year? A new year’s resolution maybe?

Horncastle Air Cadets is run by a group of volunteer staff, some from a military background and others from civvy street. We have recently welcomed Flight Sergeant Keith Clark as our Officer Commanding who has a wealth of experience within Air Cadets as an instructor and staff member. Running alongside our staff is our Civilian Committee. We look after the finances, help with fundraising and act as trustees to the charity. Several of our committee members are looking to step down due to other commitments, so if you are interested in joining a small friendly group who meet about every 6 weeks for a couple of hours, please send me a message. This may be of interest to someone with a military background who has retired or someone who is happy to deal with the finances. We are ideally looking for a treasurer and chairperson.

Kind Regards

Liz Rivers

This week our cadets conducted their St John's Ambulance Essential First Aid qualifications.

This qualification is mandatory for all cadets within their first 3 months of being at the Sqn.

First aid is a crucial part of air cadets and cadets can progress to a level where they are able to teach others!

It is a useful skill in the community too, with multiple of our cadets having used it out and about to help those in need!

Well done all

On the 9th November cadets from 1265 (Horncastle) Sqn attended the annual remembrance parade and service in Horncastle.

As always the cadets were impeccable in deportment, dressed and drill on this most sombre of days.

Lest we forget.

So last weekend three of our cadets completed the St Johns Ambulance Activity First Aid course! This awarded them with a silver first aid badge on their brassards! This course is the equivalent of a First Aid at Work qualification.

As an addition with the correct qualifications these cadets can now teach first aid on squadron.

Well done guys

CI Regan and Hubbard take it away! 🌟

Tonight our STEM based activity was lead by none other than 2 of our amazing CI’s, who helped the cadets to make their own working alarm and light by creating a circuit! The plan for these is for the cadets to make their own quiz buzzers!⚡️

The cadets were able to learn the importance of electrical currents and how they are used in items such as light bulbs, alarm systems and many more! 💡

STEM is an important part of a cadets growth within RAFAC as it helps them to learn all about the simple sciences we use in everyday life! 🔌

Recently our cadets had a go at making their own ‘Air Cadet Advert’ where they had to make a little drama piece about every thing cadets do to then present to our judges!!

Very safe to say they all got very creative and enthusiastic with their advertising skills, well done team ! 🤩

Did you know that with the air cadets you can complete a level 1 and level 2 BTEC?

By the age of 14 you could have a GCSE level equivalent qualification that is nationally recognised by employers and universities..

This is just one qualification amongst many you can earn with the air cadets.

MoD Boscombe Down 2025⭐️

This week three of our cadets and one staff member enjoyed a week down in the county of Wiltshire staying at the MoD base of Boscombe Down, home to the longest runway in the country!

During the week they enjoyed many visits to museums, learning about military life experiences and bettering their knowledge about other military organisations such as the Army and Navy 🫡

As always 1265 impressed with Sgt Jennings winning best NCO and FS Walker winning best flight commander during the week ⭐

Camps are an integral part of being in the air cadets and help the cadets to make friends outside of their own squadron and learn new skills they may not get at their squadron

Last week 8 of our cadets travelled to RAF Syerston to attend the National Air and Space Camp industry day. This day enabled the cadets to engage with industry professionals, inspiring speakers and potential future employers. At the end of the day there was even a private air show for those who attended.
