We might be taking a little break from rehearsals this week for October half term, but that doesn’t mean the preparations for Robin Hood & Babes in the Wood have stopped!

This weekend, some of our fantastic HPP team were busy down at the warehouse, getting stuck into the all-important behind-the-scenes preparations for our 2027 pantomime!

There’s so much more to putting on a show than what you see on stage, and while our cast are busy learning their lines, songs and routines, there’s a whole team of people working hard behind the scenes to help bring everything together!

From sorting through our equipment and getting things organised to starting work on everything we’ll need for the production, it’s all beginning to take shape!

A huge thank you to everyone who gave up their time this weekend to lend a hand. We’re incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated group of volunteers who work tirelessly to make our productions possible!

The magic of pantomime doesn’t just happen on stage, it starts long before the curtain goes up!

We’re heading back into the history of Robin Hood this week, and we’ve got a fact that might surprise you! 👀

Did you know?
Although Robin Hood is famously associated with King Richard the Lionheart, the Crusades weren’t actually part of the earliest Robin Hood stories!

The familiar tale of Robin remaining loyal to King Richard while he was away fighting in the Crusades became popular much later, particularly through Sir Walter Scott’s 19th-century novel Ivanhoe.

Over the centuries, the legend of Robin Hood has continued to grow and change, with new characters, adventures and storylines being added along the way!

And that’s one of the things we love about pantomime, taking a familiar story and giving it our very own HPP twist! 🎭😂

Tonight, we’re shining the spotlight on some of the youngest members of our Robin Hood & Babes in the Wood cast! 🏹🌳

Whether they’re showing us their serious acting faces, concentrating hard and getting stuck into rehearsals, or causing a little bit of chaos in the background (we wouldn’t have it any other way! 😂), our junior members certainly know how to keep us on our toes!

From learning their lines and finding their characters to picking up songs, routines and everything in between, there’s plenty for our younger performers to get their heads around. But they continue to throw themselves into rehearsals with plenty of energy, enthusiasm and, of course, a healthy dose of mischief!

Being part of a pantomime is about so much more than just performing on stage. It’s about making friendships, building confidence, trying new things and creating memories along the way. We absolutely love seeing our junior members grow in confidence and become such an important part of the HPP family.

They might be some of the youngest faces in the rehearsal room, but they certainly make their presence known! Whether they’re front and centre or keeping everyone entertained behind the scenes, our panto simply wouldn’t be the same without them!

We can’t wait to see them bring all that personality and enthusiasm to the stage when Robin Hood & Babes in the Wood arrives in February 2027!

Keep being your brilliant, wonderfully chaotic selves!

It’s Fun Fact Friday!

This week, we're taking a trip back in time to discover where some of our favourite pantomime traditions began! ⏳✨

🇮🇹 Did you know?
The roots of British pantomime can be traced back to 16th-century Italy and a form of theatre known as Commedia dell’arte.

These performances featured colourful characters, elaborate masks, improvised comedy and plenty of slapstick humour!

Sound familiar? 👀

Many of these elements helped shape the pantomime we know and love today, with its larger-than-life characters, hilarious antics and plenty of opportunities for things to go hilariously wrong!

And we're sure there'll be no shortage of comedy and chaos when Robin Hood & Babes in the Wood takes to the stage in February 2027! 🏹🌳

Another little piece of panto history for you! We'll be back with more next Fun Fact Friday!

08/10/2026

02/10/2026

We’re heading back into the legend of Robin Hood for this week’s instalment — and this time, it’s all about one of the most famous faces associated with his story… Maid Marian! 🌳

Did you know?
Maid Marian wasn’t actually part of the earliest Robin Hood tales! Her character became linked with Robin later, with the connection developing through May Day celebrations, plays and stories.

Over time, Marian became such an important part of the legend that it’s now hard to imagine Robin Hood without her!

Of course, you’ll be seeing our Robin and Marian when Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood takes to the stage in 2027.

Another little bit of Sherwood Forest history for you and we’ll be back with another Fun Fact Friday next week!

01/10/2026

That feeling when it’s time for rehearsal again… 🙌

The scripts are out, the cast are back together and apparently we’re very excited about another night in Sherwood Forest!

Another rehearsal tonight for our principal cast of Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood as we keep putting the pieces together, one song, scene and slightly chaotic moment at a time! 💙💛

If this photo doesn’t sum up the joy of panto rehearsals, we’re not sure what does!
