Herefordshire Young and Young Adult Carers CIC We support children & young people in Herefordshire caring for someone with an illness or disability

A significant number of young people in Herefordshire look after a member of their family or a friend with a disability or long term illness. While this can be very rewarding it can also impact on their own lives and development. If you are one of them you will know how much time you spend caring and coping on your own. You may not be aware that you are not the only young carer around or that supp

ort exists to help you. Herefordshire Young Carers supports children aged between 8 and 16 by offering someone to talk to, clubs, trips and outings where you can have a break from your caring responsibilities and meet others in similar situations. Herefordshire YAC (Young Adult Carers) supports the 16 to 25 age group, and can help in a wide variety of ways. These include signposting to other relevant agencies, help and support with college/university, training and employment, housing and other benefits, access to counselling, as well as meeting others socially in a similar situation. We are currently funded by an grant and kind donations from local individuals and organisations.

The Cracked Slipper Company will be hosting a weekly summer workshop over the holidays, kicking off on Tuesday 21st July from 10am-2pm at The Kindle Centre, and every Tuesday thereafter.

Under the title of The Masked Actor, we will be inviting young people between the ages of 10-16 years old to join us in creating a new performance. With Jess Edwards on board as a leader, we will be using Jess’ skills as an artist to create masks and headpieces of our very own, using these to develop characters that will represent emotions and giving these emotions a voice through character study and storytelling.

Please do share this offer with any other parents or young people whom you think may be interested. As ever, these workshops are totally FREE, and you do not have to be a current member of the Cracked Slipper Company to attend.

Big thanks to Carer Links Herefordshire for funding a cinema outing for our Young Adult Carers this week! They chose to go and see Scary Movie and had a fantastic time together, taking a break from their caring roles.

It's Carers Week, and this year's theme is Building Carer-Friendly Communities.

At Herefordshire Young and Young Adult Carers CIC, we provide support, respite, and opportunities for children and young people aged 8–25 who help care for a family member with an illness, disability, or additional need.

Our groups and activities offer more than just a break from caring responsibilities. They provide a community where young carers are seen, heard, understood, and supported - a place where they can connect with others who truly understand their experiences, build confidence, and simply enjoy being young.

This Carers Week, we're celebrating the strength, resilience, and dedication of young carers across Herefordshire.

Every young carer deserves a community where they belong. This Carers Week, we're proud to help build one.

Sometimes newly registered Young Carers can feel a little unsure about coming to one of our clubs. They don't know what to expect, so here's a tiny taster to show what we get up to on a typical evening. Our groups give3 children and young people the chance to take a break from a caring role and meet others in similar situations. It's a great way to make new friends and take part in new things.

Many young carers will find exam season especially difficult due to missed lessons and lack of support in school. We're calling for a Young Carers Lead in every school to identify and support students with caring responsibilities. ➡️ carers.org/ycad

Sophia, one of our talented was embroidering these butterflies onto her jeans at our YAC group and we just had to share. Aren't they gorgeous? Our groups are a great way for young people up to the age of 25 to socialise, take a break from caring duties and relax. Those precious two hours can be spent chatting, playing games or doing something creative - the choice is theirs.

We’re proud to be supporting Young Carers across Herefordshire through our Caring for Young Carers project 💚

Thanks to funding from the Safer Communities Fund, we’ve been able to run regular groups, provide one-to-one support, and reach young people who might otherwise feel isolated.

It’s been wonderful to see young people building friendships, gaining confidence, and having the chance to just be themselves. Herefordshire Council West Mercia PCC Talk Community Herefordshire
