Macramé Workshop

I’m excited to be collaborating with South West Art Courses in Sherborne for this macrame workshop.

Learning and practising macramé is great for more than just making something beautiful. The combination of learning new skills using our hands, concentrating and repeating rhythmic knots can be wonderfully absorbing and relaxing, while giving us that satisfying sense of achievement that comes from making something ourselves.

This workshop is held in small groups and provides an opportunity to learn the art of macramé or to further develop your skills. Participants will learn the process of macramé and make a useful macrame keyring and a wall hanging planter all from 100% recycled macramé cord from a colour of their choice. All materials included, plus coffee & tea. Please bring a packed lunch.

Stalbridge History Society Talks are proud to present: ‘In the Shadow of the Church’- Discovering the Anglo-Saxon cemetery at Iwerne Minster, a Talk by Richard McConnell BA (Hons) MCIfAA on SATURDAY 7TH NOVEMBER 2026 at THE CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH IN STALBRIDGE.

In the summer of 2025, The team from Context One Heritage & Archaeology excavated part of an Anglo-Saxon cemetery relating to a lost minster. Nearly 80 burials were uncovered, from infants to mature adults, interred in a carefully laid out graveyard. Dating from the late 7th to the 10th century, this site offers a rare and intriguing glimpse of early medieval life, death, and belief in Wessex.

Richard McConnell BA (Hons) MCIfA is Director of Context One Heritage and Archaeology, a Dorset-based archaeological consultancy he has run for nearly 30 years. He has led excavations and community engagement projects across Dorset and the wider South West. Richard sits on the committee of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA’s) Community Archaeology Special Interest Group and is a trustee of the Dorset Archaeology and Heritage Forum.
