Hemingfords Regatta Hemingfords' Regatta may be the only surviving village regatta in the country. It has been held almost every year since 1901.

The races are open to residents of the Hemingfords in Cambridgeshire and nearby villages.

🚨 LAST DAY TO ORDER YOUR HISTORIC REGATTA POSTER

Marking our 125th anniversary, we’re giving everyone the chance to take home a unique piece of Regatta heritage. This year, we’re offering beautifully reproduced posters featuring the artwork from the 5th Annual Hemingford Grey Regatta, originally held on Monday, 6 August 1906. It’s a striking glimpse into our early years and a perfect keepsake for anyone who loves the tradition of the Regatta.
Posters will be printed to order and come in two sizes, A2 and A3. The poster is a wonderful way to celebrate our long history and support the Regatta as we reach this special milestone.

TOMORROW (JULY 31st) IS THE LAST DAY FOR ORDERS SO BE QUICK!

As another Regatta comes to an end, there’s one last thing to do - the pack up! We’d love as much help as possible so we can all enjoy our Sundays a little bit sooner! If you can spare even just a little time, we’ll be getting underway with the pack up from 10am in the Regatta Field.

With temperatures soaring this week, some of the Regatta's historic events are looking rather appealing...
Did you know that the Hemingfords Regatta wasn't always just about rowing?
For many years, the programme included swimming races for both adults and children, with competitors diving into the River Great Ouse to race for trophies and prize money. There were even dog swimming races, where four-legged competitors took to the water to the delight of the crowds!
Today, swimming events are no longer part of the Regatta, but they remain a wonderful reminder of how the celebration has evolved over its 125-year history.
🐶🏊 In this heat, we're sure there are plenty of people (and dogs!) who wouldn't mind taking part!

There was of course a Men's Tug of War as well as the Ladies Tug of War - still between the The Axe and Compass, Hemingford Abbots and The C**k.
For decades, the Tug of War across the River Great Ouse was one of the most fiercely contested events at the Hemingfords Regatta. It wasn't just about strength; it was about village pride, friendly rivalry and entertaining the crowds lining both banks.
The history books even note that the Houghton bank often had a slight advantage, thanks to the large "hump" the team could get behind that gave them something solid to dig their heels into!
Although the Tug of War is now part of the Regatta's history, it's still remembered as one of the most exciting spectacles of the day.

💪 One of the most popular events in the Regatta's history... and it didn't involve a boat!
For many years, the Tug of War across the River Great Ouse was one of the highlights of the Hemingfords Regatta. Teams from the village pubs, The C**k and The Axe and Compass, Hemingford Abbots battled it out from opposite riverbanks, with fierce rivalry, plenty of cheering and, more often than not, a few muddy competitors by the end!
Although the Tug of War is no longer part of the Regatta programme, it's remembered fondly by generations of villagers and remains one of the most iconic traditions from the Regatta's past.
As we celebrate 125 years of the Hemingfords Regatta, we're looking back at some of the unforgettable moments that have shaped our history.

Races 1-7 from 09:00 - 09:18: Please can all competitors in these races report to the start at the top of the Regatta Field at 08:45 so that we can get you out in the boats and start the Regatta on time.

If you are no longer able to take part in any of the races during the day, then please let the committee know on [email protected].

Parking ONLY in the Regatta Field tomorrow - there is plenty of space there.
